DAN: The RIGHT PredictionsBy Dan O'DonnellAlright Falcon, those are some well-reasoned, logical picks you've got there. Naturally, they're all wrong. Here's how it will actually shake out:
American League Division Winners East: Boston Central: Detroit West: Los Angeles Wild Card: New York
Boston and Detroit will battle for the best record in baseball, but Detroit's new lineup will power them to the top seed in the AL playoffs, where they'll sweep the Yankees. The Red Sox and Angels will play an entertaining five-game series, but Boston's bullpen will give them a slight edge. In the ALCS though, the Sox will run into the buzz saw that is the Detroit Tigers and fall in seven games.
National League Division Winners East: New York Central: Milwaukee West: Los Angeles Wild Card: Arizona
The Mets, buoyed by new ace (and likely Cy Young winner) Johan Santana, will finish with the league's best record and beat the Diamondbacks in the opening round. The Brewers, meanwhile, will rough up the Dodgers pitching staff to win their series in five games, but fall to the Mets in six in the NLCS.
In the World Series, Detroit's superior pitching will be the difference, as David Wright, Jose Reyes and company will have a tough time hitting the likes of Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman. Look for the Tigers to prevail in six games.
