DAN: My Official Tournament PicksBy Dan O'DonnellIn the Final Four, North Carolina will beat Georgetown and UCLA will beat Texas, setting up a title game that will surprise nobody. Look for the Bruins' defense and experience to trump the Tar Heels' athleticism and, in a low-scoring game, UCLA will win its 12th national title 67-60.
As for first round upsets, I like (10) Davidson over (7) Gonzaga because they've won 22 straight, (11) St. Joseph's over (6) Oklahoma because the Sooners have some injuries, (11) Baylor over (6) Purdue because a Big Ten team always loses early, (10) St. Mary's over (7) Miami because of fantastic Aussie frosh Patty Mills, and (12) Western Kentucky over (5) Drake because, well, a 12 always seems to beat a 5.
Also watch out for (13) Oral Roberts to upset a talented but tired (4) Pittsburgh squad and the veteran (13) Winthrop Eagles to give (4) Washington St. a tough game.
In case you're wondering, no I didn't pick all of these upsets in any one bracket, but I am in about nineteen different pools, so I'm pretty sure I took at least one or two of them in each. That's the beauty of the Tournament, it's easy to look like a genius when you've got nineteen cracks at it. Let the Madness begin! Most Popular |
