Brett Favre in 1998. | Photo: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel DAN: Fan FavreiteBy Dan O'DonnellWell, the sun did rise this morning. Civilization hasn't yet crumbled. Brett Favre is no longer the Packers' starting quarterback and yet existence as we know it has not ended.
But as FOX Sports' Michael Rosenberg explains, it's a little less fun.
"He played the game like you would if you were in the backyard," said general manager Ted Thompson, echoing the sentiment of a generation of Packer fans. Favre brought an unbridled joy to every game that was as contagious as it was unparalleled. Think about it, was there ever anyone who looked like he was having more fun on a football field?
FootballOutsiders.com contributor (and frequent WSW guest) Michael David Smith posits that if Favre wasn't the greatest to ever play, he was certainly the most entertaining to watch.
For 16 years of Sundays, we watched him attck the field with a surgeon's precision, gambler's resolution, and child's exhilaration. It was a combination so rare that we can't help but feel like we won't soon watch it again. Most Popular |
