Devean George might be the one who sunk the Jason Kidd-to-Dallas trade by invoking what are known as his "Early Bird" rights, but Jerry Stackhouse might have sealed the no-deal by telling an Associated Press reporter that he would re-sign with the Mavs after New Jersey waives him.

Oops.

The league prohibits such agreements, and now a source with knowledge of the situation tells ESPN that Stackhouse would be prohibited from re-joining Dallas should the trade go through.

The lesson here is quite simple--in the NBA, as in the Mafia, don't say nuttin' to nobody.
