DAN: Richly Deserved

By Dan O'Donnell

Who's the biggest winner on Super Tuesday?  Packers coach Mike McCarthy, with a new five-year contract that will reportedly pay him about 4 million President Washingtons per season.

GM Ted Thompson isn't known for opening the pocketbook very often, but this spending spree is already paying for itself.  All McCarthy did in just his second season was guide the NFL's youngest team to a division title, a franchise record-tying 13-3 record, and a berth in the NFC Championship Game.  The last guy to do that in his sophomore year?  Lombardi.

Thompson probably won't hit the free agent market with the same spendthrift attitude, but he probably won't need to.  These young Packers are talented, hungry and suddenly battle-tested with a well-armed (and well-paid) general leading them.

Now if only they knew whether their quarterback was comng back....
