DAN: Just Win, Baby!By Dan O'Donnell
Win and in. Quite possibly the three sweetest words in the English language come playoff time. The Packers clinch the NFC North with a win over Oakland or a tie, or a Detroit loss or tie.
With all due respect to my colleague and friend Bill Michaels, who says the Pack is better served if Brett Favre sits Sunday, I could not possibly disagree more. Yes, winning the NFC North is at this point all but a foregone conclusion, but so was the NL East for the Mets. Moreover, the Packers clinch homefield throughout the playoffs by winning 3 of their last 4 (entirely possible since they play Oakland, St. Louis, Chicago, and Detroit) and the Cowboys lose 3 of their last 4 (entirely possible since they play 3 of those 4 on the road). Is it likely? No. Is it more likely than Favre suffering a debilitating injury? Yes. Think about it. Dallas lost 3 of its last 4 heading into the season last year, and when's the last time Favre missed a game, 1984? He's been airing it out in practice and is apparently good to go after a few extra days off, so handling him with extra care just doesn't make much sense. Most Popular |
