DAN: Two Weeks to Weigh Options

By Dan O'Donnell

With Rickie Weeks on the DL for the next few series, the Brewers have a chance to go their second (or perhaps third) option at second.  This could give Bill Hall the chance to play every day, or this latest injury might give the Crew the excuse they need to pull off a trade.

Rickie straight up for free agent-to-be Brian Roberts might not make sense, but a leadoff hitter with a .210 average and .325 on-base percentage doesn't either.  Managers never like to pull guys from their spots while they're injured, but the Brewers might not have much of a choice.

Rickie's 30/49 strikeout/walk ratio and inability to get on base consistently might necessitate a move down in the order, if not to the bench.  I've long felt the Brewers' lineup should look something like this:

1. Corey Hart RF
2. J.J. Hardy SS
3. Ryan Braun LF
4. Prince Fielder 1B
5. Mike Cameron CF
6. Russell Branyan/Bill Hall 3B
7. Rickie Weeks 2B
8. Jason Kendall C
9. Pitcher

Will this be the spark that prompts Yost to pull the switch?  He's already hinted at moving Cameron down in the lineup, and this might be the impetus for a major lineup change.
