Brewers handing out $10 vouchers to fans at August games
MILWAUKEE - From their disappointing play, to the problems with Ryan Braun - Brewers fever has flamed out all the way around this year.
But this approach to making it up to fans could be a first for a Major League baseball team.
The Brewers are handing out $10 vouchers to every fan who attends a home game in August.
The owner of the Brewers admits its been a challenging year for everyone and says the vouchers are a way to thank fans for sticking with the team.
"If you're a season ticket holder and come to 12 games in August, you're going to have 120 dollars worth of vouchers," said Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. "The reality is you can be a hero to your friends if you want to collect those vouchers and then use them for one game with friends or family."
The team is handing out $10 vouchers to every ticket holder at all 12 home games next month. You can use the money for just about anything including drinks, food and even toward another game ticket.
"If you want to use that to go to the team store, that's great. If you want to bring friends in September and treat them all to food and beverages... you could probably do that too."
The vouchers can be combined and used at any home game for the rest of the season. In all, the team plans to hand out more than 3.5 million dollars worth of vouchers.
"I think its a great idea to get fans back into baseball, the Brewers again."
Tom Ricco just bought tickets for August 2nd for he and his grandsons even though the season has been a tough one for him to swallow.
"It's quite a disappointment, considering what achievements we had in the past," Ricco says.
But he hopes the financial incentive is enough to entice more fans to fill the stands for the rest of the year. He knows he will.
"We'll be back for a second or third game," he said.
The Brewers say the vouchers are just the first in a series of fan-appreciation initiatives. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
The vouchers will not be valid in suites, all-inclusive areas, at "Fridays", or at portable merchandise stands.
