Haudricourt: New-look pitching staff for Brewers in 2013
MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers' pitching staff has a dramatic new look to it.
Gone are dominant Zach Greinke, inconsistent Shawn Marcum and a number of pitchers who didn't pan out in the bullpen in 2012.
In their place are a number of veterans, including former Cardinals' hurler Kyle Lohse who went 16-3 in 2012.
"Considering what was going on with their rotation, it was a tremendous move," said Journal Sentinel Brewers beat writer and Newsradio 620 WTMJ "Brewers 360" contributor Tom Haudricourt.
"Entering the last week, the rotation was in flux with Chris Narveson going to the bullpen, Mark Rogers never got out of the starting blocks. A veteran coming off the best year of his life helps settle it down a little bit."
However, the bullpen remains in flux, with a number of new guys including Tom Gorzelanny, Alfredo Figaro and Brandon Kintzler.
"They've overhauled it to a large extent. After it's a bunch of new guys, new to the Brewers but not new to Major League Baseball," said Haudricourt.
"It takes a few weeks for everyone to settle into their roles. We won't know about the bullpen unit for a while."
