Favre vs. Rodgers In First 27By Bill MichaelsThis season there is absolutely no doubt that Brett Favre is having a career year and kudos to him. Many of you are Favre fans and/or supporters and feel the need to point out all of the recent successes that Favre is delivering for the Minnesota Vikings. I can even understand that, for some of you, there's an "I told you so" self-righteous thought process.
Looking at the start that both quarterbacks have had, you can certainly ascertain that, barring injury, there will be success at the quarterback position in Green Bay for some time to come. Some additional stats: Favre vs. Rodgers since the start of 2008

For all of the Pressure put on Aaron Rodgers when he took over the Green Bay Packers, pressure that he didn't cause by his own doing, it's a little unfair to compare Rodgers to an 18 year polished veteran in Favre. It's exciting, if you're a Packers fan, to see Rodgers playing well and being spoken so highly of this early in his career BUT...in all fairness, if you want to compare apples to apples, you'd have to compare Favre and Rodgers in their first 27 games of their careers. For Favre, you have to go back to the 1992 and 93 season's to get a gauge statistically as to where he was when he had his first real opportunities. For Rodgers, his numbers come from the last season and a half.

Bottom line is the Packers are just like the rest of the corporate NFL now for running Farve, arguaably the greatest player in franchise history, out of town. I thought the culture in Green Bay and Wisconsin was different from the rest of the NFL, but with TT at the helm we are just like all the other teams. The bigger stat that you should have in red is the wins and losses. Brett is a WINNER. 1 losing season in his career. Rodgers is a stat QB, plain and simple. Why compare? Favre was 22 when starting for the Pack, Rodgers sat for 3 years he was 25 in his first year starting! If you want to compare do it at the same age! Favre 25/26 yards passing(8,295),TD passes(71), INT (27)! Rodgers at the same age 25/26 yards passing (7,503), TD passes (51) INT(19). We are never going to get anywhere comparing Favre to Rodgers. Remember when Ron Wolf was criticized for the Terrell Buckley pick? The point is every GM has one draft pick they wish they could have back. With that said I think TT has done a good (not great) job in drafting, especially this year in getting players suited to play in the 3-4. I would also like to point out that the Steelers' o-line hasn't played that great. Big Ben has been knocked around alot. Good teams can have suspect O-lines. the Pack are gaining momentum at a good time right now.

Just win baby. Even in the 92-93 timeframe Brett had a better W/L record. Part of Rodgers problem is he is too in love with the passer rating. Sacks kill a lot more drives than throwing away the ball, but they do not hurt his rating.

Interesting comparisons of two completely different QB styles. As a Packer fan, I am ecstatic to watch Rodgers take a sack instead of try to squeeze it into a bad spot. Rodgers is very accurate and is still developing. He will develop better pocket instincts and will grow into a premier QB. Yes Favre had the guts and will to win, but Rodgers is soooo smart with the ball. I don't get mad about the sacks like everyone else. I'll take the sacks over the pic-sixes any Sunday.

They lost the NFC Championship game due to coaching. Pretty sad when you have a player from the opposite team sit in front and call you out by saying you can't cover me. That game NEVER should have gone to overtime. Same thing with the 4th and 20 game. Poor coaching.

Favre cannot win in the elements anymore. Anybody that has seen him play in Lambeau when the weather has gotten cold the past 8 years knows that (Exhibit A: He was out played by Eli Manning in the Championship game). When he did win, it was because of a tremendous effort in the running game (Exhibit B: The divisional playoff vs the Seahawks). What it comes down to for me is the Offensive and Defensive lines. Now to now comparison, the Vikings have a MUCH better Line/s. Even with a crappy O line Rodgers is performing well. The only fault Teddly has, is in the way he has handled the Trenches. Rodgers behind the Vikings line would be putting up the same if not better #'s if you ask me. Holding on to Favre would have all but sent Rodgers packing. I bet the vikings wouldve loved to have him a year ago. Long term Packers are betr off.

I love comparisons like these, they're so useless when done as a simple overview... I suppose if you wanted a serious comparison of the two in their early days, you'd have to see who Brett had a chance to learn from and watch...uh, no one... you'd also have to look at that Rogers stepped in after the GM had four years of building...Favre, nope...one, mostly Braatz guys on the team for the first couple of years. Rogers is off to a fine start, and hopefully he'll shake off the over-cautiousness.
