“It’s not about playing for the Vikings”.
Remember who said that? That’s right; it’s the quarterback who’s donning a purple uniform and coming back into the house that he used to call home. It’s the quarterback that is salivating at the thought of beating the Packers twice this year. It’s the quarterback that we rode the emotional rollercoaster with going back to 2003…that’s right 2003! Every year, “I don’t know”. “I don’t know”.
One day Brett Favre will return to Lambeau to receive his accolades, which he deserves, but not Sunday. Sunday, he’s entering Lambeau Field with spite and revenge on his mind. You know it and I know it.
Let me tell you a story, bear with me. On September 30th, 2007, Favre broke the all time record for passing touchdowns. When he came to the side line he was greeted by Aaron Rodgers who was cheering right along with everyone else. With a big smile, Favre threw his arm out and told Rodgers, “Come on, put it in the vise. Come on…..”. The vise is what they call Favre’s hand. In other words, Favre cheerily, gleefully wanted Rodgers to give him five. Rodgers slapped Favre’s hand and they hugged. This year, the Wednesday before the Monday night, October 5th match-up, Favre was asked why he has never spoken to Rodgers since his ugly departure from the Packers organization. Favre answered, “For what”, he went on to say, “No one’s called me.” In fact, Rodgers has tried to get a hold of Favre on a couple of separate occasions. Favre has never returned the texts or calls. I continue; after the Monday night game this past October 5th, Favre was smiling like the cat that ate the canary after extracting a pound of flesh from his former team. He was greeted at the middle of the field by Donald Driver. The two embraced, shared a moment and moved on. This brief interlude was surrounded by hundreds of photographers and reporters. Behind the circle of paparazzi waited Aaron Rodgers. Not wanting to get in the way or force his way into the spotlight, Rodgers stood alone, waiting for his opportunity to see his, in his mind apparently, old friend. When Driver left the circle and Favre was alone, or as alone as you could be in a group of hundreds yelling your name, Rodgers slipped into the ring of flashing lights and greeted his old friend. Favre looked at Rodgers as if he was a vagrant asking for money. The Vikings QB barely stuck “the vise” out long enough for Rodgers to get a grip and then pulled away, turned his back to escape the moment. You could tell that Rodgers was hurt by the action but never said a word about it nor showed any ill will regarding the cold greeting that he received from Favre. That night finally and completely revealed to me the class, or lack thereof, that Brett Favre has. Favre wants you around if you’re fawning all over him but if you’re just there to say hello, he doesn’t have time for you. He can’t extend a hand to say hello or give reciprocating accolades.
As great as Favre was on the field, that’s all that he should be remembered for. Brett hardly ever did anything unless it was for Brett. For certain friends he was somewhat kind but you’re fooling yourself if you think that there wasn’t the “What’s in it for me” thought behind everything Favre did. He’s a lot savvier than you give the good ole’ country boy credit for.
So this Sunday, when the purple #4 enters Lambeau Field, I’m hoping that Packers fans remember the waffling, the retirement, the un-retirement, the visits that were made to Brett’s house to ask him to come back and play only to have Favre say that he didn’t feel wanted enough, the Greta Van Susteren interview in which Favre said that it wasn’t about playing for the Vikings, the Peter King interview where Favre said it WAS about revenge only to deny it later, the “For what” comment, all of it….when Favre walks on to Lambeau Field wearing a Vikings jersey, he’s the rival. He’s no longer Brett Favre; Packers savior. He’s Brett Favre; the revenge filled quarterback who’s looking to stick it to the Packers. You should treat him accordingly.
When Favre returns one day to see his number retired in the ring of honor, and I use the word honor loosely in this case, then you should give him the accolades that he does deserve. He was a tremendous player for the Packers organization and he, along with Reggie White, led the Lombardi Trophy back to Title Town. For that he should be applauded. NOT for wearing a Vikings jersey!

A couple yrs ago I bought something from BFs official website for my son which put me on their e-mail list. Each time he came close to breaking a record he would insist that he didn't care about records & each time I got slammed with emails hawking record breaking commemorative BF signed shirts, pictures and footballa. My sons signed picture is now at the bottom of a deskdrawer along with his admiration for a great football player but a classless phoney. GO PACK and GO Rodgers!

Yup, big unit once again nailed it right on the head! I guess if it had been any other team but the Vikqueens it would have been more acceptable, I remember Brent talking about how he'd never play for the Vikqueens. Hope Pack stick it to him Sunday

Am I Missing something? I thought that being a fan meant supporting the players who are out on the field giving a 100 percent to win. Packers might have a lot of work to do but I see the players giving it their all. They have earned and deserve the respect and support of their true fans. HOW INSULTING! To Rodgers,Driver &Co.Waisting your energy on Favre and neglecting the players who deserve your support!GO PACK!

Do you remember the game vs the Giants when Brett layed down to give Strahan the single season sack record? when they interviewed the packers O. linemen afterwards, they were so mad, they busted their butts to keep that from happening. What kind of team mate/leader does that? that speaks volumns .

You know Brett never had a line as bad as Rodger's has had and if he had his stats would have been beyond terrible. Rodger's is a very, very good QB and I would rather have him as QB than Farve. I remember a lot of Vikes games where Brett got rushed and hit and he was totally taken out of the game. Rodger's gets hit that way just about every game and he keeps playing and most of the time very well. Rodger's will never choke like Brett does. Just wait till the Pack makes the playoffs!!!

I will check back after the Vikings spank the Pack again to see your whiny comments. Do you remember the 2007 SI article about Brett's charity work? Go pound it Unit...this whole thing is gonna cost you your career as well (certainly your credibility).

Michaels is simply bitter. This organization will wear the stain of trading the best player in franchise history until Thompson is gone. I hope Favre smokes the Packers again with an audience of roughly 40% purple in the seats of Lambeau.

No matter the quarterback, we've got a game to play, and number 4 is on the other side of the ball. Simple as that. Hopefully the coaching staff will remember that Favre's worst games are always when he's under heavy pressure. That means blitzing, often. Unfortunately, since the coaching staff is loath to such a concept, Favre will again shred the defense because he'll have all day to throw with only a 3 or 4 man rush.

thank you to all the PACKER FANS. Brett left the pack and decided to be a viking, how could he? I remember him saying how much he "hated those guys" in an interview before all this mess took place. I also would like to comment on the guy who wrote about what he called Aaron "the other teams quarterback" I also heard that and applaud you for bringing that up. I hope he gets so rattled on sunday I can taste it. IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE GAME ON SUNDAY--SCREAM YOUR HEADS OFF PACKER FANS!!!

That's what this article should have ben titled. It's all about how Rodgers needs a hug because his little feelings are hurt. I don't know what game you were watching, but he met Rodgers on the field and spoke to him, it wasn't just the handshake. The reason this whole soap opera is still going on is because the media won't let it drop. Grow up and move on

Favre is playing for a team that has been the biggest rival of Green Bay for the last 5 to 10 years. Give one good reason why a true Packers fan would cheer him?

Favre is a class act, when he wants to be. With regards to the Packers, he will be classless(in our eyes) since we feel he was wrong in what he did and how he held us hostage. He thinks what he did and how things went down were correct, so he holds a grudge and doesn't see the need to appease us. Look what he's doing with Veteran players around him...that's something Ted wouldn't give him and I believe Brett would still be wearing Green and Gold if Ted would have spent some cap money!!

Am I missing something. Brett Farve plays pro football and that is all. This guy didn't find a cure for cancer, he throws a football for a living. Football is fun and all, but you have to put it into perspective. I'm not a real big Farve fan, haven't been in a long time, but I really don't care who he plays for or what he does cause after the game is over I could care less about him or any other football player. As much as I care about the Pack, I realize it is just football and that's it.

Here is my first hand experience with Mr. Favre. A few years back at the "Welcome Back the Packers event" at Lambeau I happened to be in the men's room at the same time. He comes out of a stall and proceeds to go out of the room without washing his hands. All I could think of were the poor folks who were shaking that cats paw. He was a great football player but also a true hillbilly. GO PACK!

Give me a break ... it sounds like the author has soaked in the Favre-as-Villian spin that Ted and Ari Fleisher put together. Not a lot of original thought here. I can't believe all of the hate. If you want to know what he is really like, talk to a guy like Ryan Longwell or Donald Driver or Al Harris and get their opinions. These guys know Favre and the type of good character he is. The author knows nothing.

Unit, You've got it bad, but I agree. Favre tried to make himself bigger than the Green Bay Packers, and no one is or ever will be! There are a hell of a lot more and classier current and former Packers out there that realize that. I'm tired Farve fans saying the Pack was nothing before he came. Didn't they aleady win 11 championships? Favre got 1. He was a partying 3rd stringer who was a joke in Atlanta before he came to GB. Who staightened him out, Deanna? I'm a GB fan and he's a Viking!

"It's all about Brett". He has burned the bridge with me as a fan - I am no longer a Brett Favre fan. I would have gone to Canton for his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame - now I sincerely hope the Packers never retire his number - for what he has done, with his waffling, ego trip, whining, revenge, and signing with the arch-rival Vikings - he does not deserve the "honor" of having his name up with the other Packer greats.
