Favre And Lebron; Today's Thoughts

By Bill Michaels

Sometimes I sit down to write and I can stare at the keyboard for what seems to be an eternity until a useful thought enters my head (some of you would say that a useful thought has never entered my head…yeah, I’m smiling, get over yourself)…..and then there’s days like today.

Brett Favre IS coming back as a VikingLet’s start with Brett Favre shall we; He’s coming back. After speaking with sources close to Favre, they confirmed to me what I already figured, as long as his arms healthy, he’s going to a Viking. As a matter of fact, we discussed their planned trips to Minneapolis and where to stay, good restaurants and how, up until now, they hated that Viking’s horn as much as I, we all, do. “You been right all along Bill,” my source proclaimed, “You’ve been saying it, Brett didn’t have that surgery to sit home and watch games on TV.” Another source went as far as to tell me, “Don’t be surprised if the reports are true and he signs in the next week or two. He’s itchin’ to get into camp.”
I asked my source; why do you think he’s coming back? Without hesitation, this particular source told me, “He wants to beat the Packers first and foremost, he loves the competition and trying to prove people wrong and because he’s bored at home. Sitting at home will drive him nuts.”

And then there’s “King James”, Lebron.  On Monday night, a pick-up game ensued at the LeBron James Skills Academy at the University of Akron.  Xavier's Jordan Crawford went up and over and, believe it or not, dunked on “The King”. A couple of videographers were on hand to capture the event. Lebron, embarrassed, walked over and spoke with a NIKE rep (NIKE is a sponsor of James’ camp) after which the rep confiscated the videos of the jam. NIKE now claims that the tapes were taken because “video-taping after hours games at the camp are not allowed”.
"Nike has been operating basketball camps for the benefit of young athletes for decades and has long-standing policies as to what events are open and closed to media coverage. Unfortunately, for the first time in four years, two journalists did not respect our no videotaping policy at an after-hours pickup game following the LeBron James Skills Academy," said Nike spokesman Derek Kent
Let’s see; Lebron doesn’t get to the finals, doesn’t shake the hands of his opponents, wears NY gear all the time (somewhat of a slap in the face to the Cleveland fans don’t you think?), wears a “Check My Stats” shirt and a “LBJ MVP” shirt and now, has NIKE take videotapes of “his Kingness” getting dunked on by a college kid.
You talk about the ultimate image baby. Instead of appreciating the skills of Crawford and giving him his props, which would have looked good on camera, he has NIKE reps take the tape so no one sees James getting lit up by someone who he considers “less than him”. I’m not sure where to even begin my rant because his actions seem to speak louder than any biting words that I can come up with. ‘Nuff said!

Is that Favre is a compulsive liar who tried to hold the Packers hostage for his own personal gains. He's petty, self serving and forgot who is responsible for his success in the NFL and that's the Packers.

What the Pack fans who have turned on Favre do not get is that it is the same competitive drive, desire to win, and willingness to take a gamble (with a throw and now end of career) that made him what he is and what they use to love...and won a bowl.

Just because someone has a right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do. Yes Favre has a "right" to play as long and for what ever team he wants to. That doesn't make it the right thing to do. There is a big difference between the two.
