The Big Unit Gives The Grave Digger A Run For The Money At Slinger

By Bill Michaels

On a picture perfect evening, at Slinger Super Speedway (The World's Fastest 1/4 Mile Oval) The Big Unit, Bill Michaels, gave Gilbert Brown, The Grave Digger, a run for his money in the Kwik Trip Celebrity Feature Race.  Brown shot out at to an early lead, in this 10 lap feature, when Gilbert sling-shotted his way to the front on the start.  It was Michaels who came storming back, at one point running 4 wide while passing lap-traffic and putting the pressure on Brown to win his inaugural event.  On 2 seperate occassions, Michaels got a brief opening to gain the lead but it was Brown who blocked successfully using the wall and lap-traffic to keep Michaels from the top spot.

On the last lap, Brown with a half car lead, went high into the oval giving Michaels the daylight needed to overtake the strong running 93 car.  Michaels hit the groove hard in turn one but in turn two, juiced the gas a little too much and spun out up into the wall area eventually landig safely in the infield grass.  With a thunderous ovation for an exciting race, The Grave Digger went on to victory and the trophy, The Grave Digger Shovel!
