Packers At Seattle; What To Watch For

By Bill Michaels

With both teams desperately needing a win, it’s Seattle’s defense that has more to prove that Green Bay ’s does.  The Seahawks return all 11 starters from last years team yet rank 29th in scoring and 27th in total defense.  Stopping the run has been a huge problem for both defenses thus far so I’d look for Ryan Grant, who feels much healthier now, to a large workload on Sunday afternoon.   One side note offensively; pay attention to Chad Clifton, if his hamstring acts up on him, he might take a seat on the bench rather quickly.  It was AFTER he left the game last week that the run game finally started to take shape.

Defensively, it’s easy, the Packers have to stop the run and play fundamentally better football.  Tacklers have to wrap up upon impact and linebackers and the secondary have to remain in their gaps.  There’s been too much over-pursuit and too many wide open cut-back lanes for opposing runners to rush through.  Charlie Frye looks to be starting in place of Matt Hasselbeck.  Hasselbeck was listed as “Probable” this week but on Friday, Mike Holmgren announced that Frye would “most likely” get the start.  This move could be one of those “trap” circumstances.  It’s difficult to prepare for a guy you’ve never seen in person before.  Don’t take Frye’s start lightly.

Here’s a reminder, Quest Field is a VERY tough place to play for Seahawk opponents.  If the Packers are to get a win there, it’ll be a dogfight.
I’m thinking a close game, 27-21 Packers.

Should New York Giant wide receiver, Plaxico Burress, go to jail for carrying a gun into a nightclub?

  • YES, it's the law
  • NO, it's his first offense
