2 QBs In The 2008 Draft For The Pack

By Bill Michaels

With 9 draft choices overall the Packers, once again, gathered a plethora of talent but how that talent will fare we’ll have to wait and see.

Ted Thompson’s choice for 2 quarterbacks (Brian Brohm – Louisville and Matt Flynn – LSU) certainly has stirred speculation regarding the belief in the health and actual ability of, the heir apparent, Aaron Rogers.

While at Lambeau Field’s Atrium, the recurring question was, “Is Aaron Rogers really going to be the Packers quarterback next season?”  The simple and emphatic answer is YES.

Thompson and McCarthy are fully committed to Rogers and truly believe in his ability to pick up where #4 left off.  There’s simply a concern for who will be the actual 2nd and 3rd QB on the Packers roster.  The security blanket that’s been Brett Favre for so many years is gone.  There’s a new dynamic in Green Bay now and Thompson is merely trying to cultivate for the possibility that Rogers won’t play 16 years without missing a game.

What’s more compelling is the deep and honest confidence that the other Packers seem to have in their new signal caller.  Scott Wells stated, “Sure, we’ll miss Brett but it’s a business.  Aaron and I have been working together for the last two years.  We weren’t sure whether or not Brett would be back so we’ve been working hard at getting our act together in preparation for this day.  You all will finally get to see what we’ve known for years. Aarons a good quarterback and now he gets to prove it to everyone.”

James Jones had similar sentiments, “Aarons a hell of a quarterback.  He’s a real leader and the guys really respect him.  I’m not saying that cuz I want him to throw me the ball, I really mean it.  He’s a good good quarterback.”

KGB parroted his teammates, “We’ve gone against A-Rod on the scout team.  He’s picked us apart at times.  He’s good man, I mean real good.”

The fist step for Rogers was completed a while ago, gaining the respect of those around him.  When this actually happened, we don’t know for sure but one thing we do know and that’s Rogers will have to perform and put up “W’s” for that respect to grow and remain constant.
