One of the best left-handers in modern history, Tom Glavine, has just become a free agent after the Braves released him, freeing themselves from $3.5 million in potential payments to him. Yet Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin said exclusively on 620WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News" he does not want Tom Glavine. "I don't think so," said Melvin. "I had a lot of calls last night. My feeling is that Atlanta knows about Tom Glavine more than anybody. At this point, I don't think we would have an interest.
Glavine, 43, has a 305-203 record in 22 seasons with the Braves and New York Mets. He went 2-4 in 2008 for Atlanta and was pitching in the minor leagues on assignment this year. "He had left to go to Atlanta, go to the Mets, came back for a final try. I don't know how he was throwing. We didn't necessarily look at him you have to move on. It is a tough business when you have to tell people that they have to move on. Veteran guys are always tough to leave. It's a tough move for the Braves." Melvin also said the Brewers said they were adding pitcher Chris Smith to the roster while sending reliever Mark DiFelice on bereavement leave for his grandmother's funeral. Smith has a 2-0 record and a 1.38 ERA in 21 games with the AAA Nashville Sounds. |
