Marlins-Mets Bottom 9th
David Wright at the plate facing Lindstrom...pop up to second. One out.
Chavez at the plate....oh is this nerve racking - to the pitcher - two away!
Damion Easley....we're all on pins and needles on 3-2 and Lindstrom walks Easliey.
Next up: Carlos Beltran, the only Met with a homer off him in his career....FLYOUT!!!!!!!!!
Top 9th
3:28 p.m.
Sabathia induces Soriano into a left field flyout to the man who hit the biggest HR in team history? Braun.
Sabathia vs. Theriot: base hit to left field. Torres is warming up.
Sabathia vs. Lee: DP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More:
• Sat. Final: Cubs 7, Brewers 3
• Sat. Final: Mets 2, Marlins 0
• Jeff Falconio: Down to 162
Bottom 8th
3:17 p.m.
Brewers 3, Cubs 1 - Braun 2-run HR
WES HELMS! Thank you for helping your old team! 8th inning HR to give the Marlins the lead in New York! Sabathia has to step away because of all the noise because of the big homer.
Sabathia K's on his first at bat. Cameron: SINGLE TO LEFT. We're in business with the big boys coming up.
Florida update: DAN UGGLA!! 4-2 Marlins!
Durham jacked one 360 feet, right at the wall, but the wall was 365 feet. We all thought it was gone, but it wasn't.
Howry vs. Braun: WE ARE GOING TO PHILLY!!!!!!!!!!!! (We think.)
Top 8th
3:14 p.m.
Sabathia keeps dominating with 2 K's and a barehanded putout to end another inning. 8 innings, 7 K's.
Bottom 7th
2:51 p.m.
Brewers 1, Cubs 1 - Counsell draws walk w/bases loaded
Durham with a ball in the gap, and great way to start the inning with a double! At last, some offense. Groundout by Braun, but Durham smartly advances to 3rd! Fielder takes a walk to 1st, Pinella takes a walk to the mound for a pitching change.
Michael Wuertz comes in to battle Hardy: a walk! Bases loaded for Corey Hart....please, the Packers just got the coup de gracie against them, we need something good....NO! A swinging K on a breaking ball.
Craig Consell pinch hits - 3-1 count....INSIDE PITCH! TIE BALL GAME!!!!
Top 7th
2:46 p.m.
While the Mets celebrate in New York, A DP and a flyout to Cameron continues Sabathia's domination, but the Cubs' Johnny Wholestaff philosophy is doing the same thing.
Bottom 6th
2:28 p.m.
While Sean Marshall gets working in the pen for Chicago, Kendall pops-up. Sabathia at the plate? Nealry hit a homer to the 3rd deck, but it was 10 feet foul. He's out.
Ah, the Mets just tied it on a Beltran HR.
Top 6th
2:28 p.m.
Hill gets K'd by Sabathia. Is this guy human???
Marlins 2, Mets 0!!!! Two out on a pop-up. Base hit, though, for Theriot. Derrek Lee, with a runner on 1st? Fly ball right to Durham and the inning ends.
Bottom 5th
2:19 p.m.
Florida 1, Mets 0, Top 6th!!!!!
Two straight K's for Kevin Hart. Seven K's all day long. Naathing this inning either. It's getting old.
Top 5th
2:12 p.m.
Sabathia has got to keep it going. He does with a K to start the inning. A pop-up to Durham continues the outage. Tough play by Hardy continues his domination. Offense, help him out, please?
Bottom 4th
2:06 p.m.
Durham does nothing...10 in a row, with Neal Cotts on the mound. Braun with a long jack but not enough and Soriano makes a catch near the warning track. Fielder: naaaaaaaaathing.
Top 4th
1:56 p.m.
Lee starts the inning with a nice out. A check-swing K of Ramirez. Reed Johnson filling in for Hoffpauir - BIG swinging K.
Top 3rd Inning
1:42 p.m.
Sabathia on the mound again making Guzman look silly in this at bat with a hefty whiff. While Chad Gaudin goes in the bullpen to wram up in the bullpen-by-committee idea, Sabathia walks Soriano. Theriot: the riot produces a double play, and a riot in the stands.
Bottom 2nd Inning
1:37 p.m.
Jiminy Christmas - Guzman tied up Hardy on high cheese. Hardy is more frustrated than ever. He didn't listen to the order to just relax and play loose. Hart pops up to right center. Then something so insignificant happened that I don't need to even blog about it, since it ended the inning.
Top 2nd Inning
1:29 p.m.
Cubs 1, Brewers 0 - fielders choice by Cedeno.
A Ramirez single starts off the inning in a way we don't like, but a pop-up to Durham eases our nerves. Hoffpauir does a single down the line to create first and third....just past Fielder. Error, really. Cedeno at the plate and the DP? Nope...not fast enough and a run scores to the happiness of 1/3rd of Miller Park, NOT Wrigley Field north. A bouncer up the middle to Durham ends the damage.
Bottom 1st Inning
1:20 p.m.
A Cameron single started the inning. Then after one out by Durham, Braun get's K'd by low cheese, and Fielder can't help the rally.
Top 1st Inning
1:09 p.m.
Fielder showed some skills to start the inning by running to grab a foul ball by Soriano. A Ray Durham-caught grounder then led to the third out - a WONDERFUL sliding catch by Hart in right field against Derrick Lee.
Pregame
12:46 p.m.
Micah Hoffpauir takes over at RF today for the Cubs. A grounder to Durham retired Theriot.
12:39 p.m.
Hmmm....more than 100 pitchers per game for CC Sabathia on three days rest. Does "Chilled Champagne" get better with work?
12:32 p.m.
The Mets-Marlins game now has a delay until 1:00 p.m. That means triple the game-watching on fans part today. Bring your radios and just go to a sports bar or something, unless you have triple screen-in-screen.
12:17 p.m.
Mother Nature doesn't like the Mets as much as Brewers fans don't. The Marlins-Mets game is in a rain delay.
4:55 a.m.
Stay tuned to this page where we'll have live blog coverage of the biggest Brewers game in 26 years as they host the Chicago Cubs with their playoff lives at stake.
CC Sabathia, arguably the best pitcher in baseball, starts the game that he was truly brought to Milwaukee to pitch. He'll face Carlos Zambrano and, most probably, a host of relievers.
