3:44 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Tim Dillard vs. Murphy: power drive to the left field power alley, off the wall, another double.

Bottom 8th

3:40 p.m.  3 Out
Sanchez vs. Mat Gamel (major-league debut): got looking, looking frustrated.

3:39 p.m.  2 Out
Sanchez vs. Rivera: third base bouncer and Wright is also a routine out.

3:38 p.m.  1 Out
Duaner Sanchez vs. Hart: bouncer to short, routine for Reyes who makes everything look routine.

Top 8th

3:35 p.m.  3 Out
Stetter vs. Reyes: pop-up 100 feet high and 5 feet behind home plate.  Kendall no problem.

3:32 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st

Stetter vs. Nick Evans: bouncer on the hole past Hardy who dived but couldn't get it.

3:32 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd and 3rd

3:30 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
Stetter vs. Fernando Tatis (PH for Church): broken-bat pop-up to Weeks to end that at bat with a lot of oohs and aahs.

3:25 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd

Stetter vs. Church: swingandamiss on a breaking ball.

3:21 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Mitch Stetter vs. Beltran (going righty versus the lefty hurler): an inside pitch walks him.

Bottom 7th

3:17 p.m.  3 Out
Joe Smith (not the former Buck) vs. Braun: swingandamiss K. Ugh.

3:13 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
Perez vs. Kapler: inside pitch forces a walk, and Jerry Manuel's forced to walk out and get a reliever.

3:12 p.m.  2 Out
NY Mets 6, Milwaukee 2
Perez vs. Hardy: long fly to left center, hit very well....GONE!  That's a confidence builder for J.J., who's had a bad few at bats.

3:10 p.m.  2 Out
Perez vs. Weeks: hi fly to left, got under it, Reyes snatches.

3:08 p.m.  1 Out
Perez vs. Angel Salome (major league debut at-bat): hi fly to right, 100 feet short of a homer, and it's an out in right.

Top 7th

3:04 p.m.  3 Out
McClung vs. Delgado: the right side shift sends Hardy past 2nd to get the out.

3:01 p.m.  2 Out
McClung vs. Wright: swing-and-a-miss strike-em-out-throw-em-out-no-more-words-with-hyphen-available-out.

2:59 p.m.  Runner on 1st
McClung vs. Murphy: a leadoff walk which doesn't start off the inning the way he wanted, to say the least.

Bottom 6th

2:57 p.m.  3 Out
Perez vs. Kendall: as Hall seems to be able to stay in the game, another popup...for Beltran in center.

2:55 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Hall: popup.  Slams the bat down in complete agitation, nearly accidentally hitting Brian Schneider in the head with an ax-on-wood chop-like motion.  Also mouthed something to the ump rather loudly and Tom Hallion, the plate up, has kicked him out of the game.  Seemed like it was just for the bat slam behavior.

2:52 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Rivera: a low-and-inside walk on a 3-2 pitch.

2:51 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 2nd
NY Mets 6, Milwaukee 1
Perez vs. Hart: a run-scoring double....at last, an RBI.

2:49 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 2nd
Perez vs. Braun: a frustrating pop-up to center field.

2:48 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Perez vs. Kapler: bombed to center, and it one-hops the fence for a ground-rule double, the third hit off Perez today.

2:47 p.m.
In an absolute blowout, Secretariat at the Belmont style, the Polish sausage blasted the competition in the sausage race.

Top 6th

2:44 p.m.  3 Out
McClung vs. Reyes: easy catch for Braun on a liner to left.

2:42 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st

2:40 p.m.  1 Out

Perez vs. Weeks: pop up down the line and Delgado backs up, nearly crashing into a teammate, catching it.

2:31 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 2nd
Perez vs. Dillon (Seth McClung working in the bullpen): Dillon pulled back to try to avoid the inside pitch, and the ump said it caught the corner.

2:29 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Perez vs. Kendall: drops in left field on the line ofr a base hit and Kendall slides in for a double.  Ueck's 2nd call for a rally.

Top 5th

2:27 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Church: Hall eats it up at 3rd base for the out.  How does it taste?

2:25 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
Bus vs. Beltran: Carlos no. 2 (or is it 1A?) walks.

2:22 p.m.  2 Out

Bottom 4th

2:19 p.m.  3 Out
Perez vs. Hall: high fly, again to Church who ends an inning with naaaathing for the good guys.

2:17 p.m.  2 Out
Perez vs. Rivera: pop-up behind the pitcher's mound, and after a conference, Jose Reyes grabs it.

2:17 p.m.  1 Out
Perez vs. Hart: a high fly to right, two handed there for the out.  Perez is dominating - one hit so far.

Top 4th

2:14 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Murphy: easy putout by Rivera at 1st.

2:12 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd
Bush vs. Murphy: Reyes runs and Kendall dropped the ball before it gets out of his hands, and Reyes has his 47th steal.

2:11 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
Bush vs. Reyes: a not-so-nice four pitch walk.  Love Jim Powell's quote: "real bad idea."

2:09 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Perez: a slow curve makes Perez loop his bat like it wanted to leave his hands.

2:06 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Schneider: routine pick for Weeks who backs up to get a better bounce and gets Schneider.

Bottom 3rd

2:02 p.m..  3 Out
Perez vs. Braun: another inside corner called strike three.  Ugh.

2:00 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Kapler: a high fastball sends Kapler to the bench.

1:57 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Hardy: a pitch to the screen that''s ball four.  Could he have Dave Bush first inning disease?

1:54 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Perez vs. Weeks: after a foul tip went into the ump's chest - and he needed a second...then a pitch behind both of Weeks' legs turns to ball four.

1:53 p.m.  1 Out
Perez vs. Bush: slow liner right into Delgado's glove.

Top 3rd

1:51 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Castillo: a tricky-hop bouncer to Weeks who takes it in like a pro.

1:50 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Ryan Church: a liner right to Hall who grabbed it barehanded on an in between bounce, backhanded it on his knees to Hardy who completed a beautiful double play.

1:48 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Carlos Beltran: in front of a pretty sparse crowd, maybe 20,000 (there goes the sellout streak), a between the infield wickets single.

Bottom 2nd

1:45 p.m.  3 Out
Perez vs. Kendall: long fly to the warning track, but Beltran ends the frame.

1:44 p.m.  2 Out
Perez vs. Hall: taking strike three called, with a spit and a disbelieving look at the call when it airbrushed the inside corner.

1:42 p.m.  1 Out
Perez vs. Rivera: fly to right and Church sidesteps five feet for his 39th putout of the first two innings.  (Well, maybe not.)

Top 2nd

1:38 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Delgado: a BIG K on a big cut with a beautiful sinker.

1:37 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 3rd
Bush vs. Wright: another pop-up, foul territory for Rivera at first.  That's how you get out of jams.  Uh, not out of it yet, though.

1:35 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 3rd
Bush vs. Murphy: thankfully, a pop-up right to Hardy, and Reyes has to stand at third.

1:33 p.m.  Runner on 3rd
Bush vs. Reyes: a bullet liner to the left-center field gap and Reyes gets in easily for a triple as the throw went late.  Bush just doesn't have it today.

Bottom 1st

1:30 p.m.  3 Out
Perez vs. Hart: another pop-up...shallow right, and Luis Castillo ends rally attempt number one.

1:27 p.m.  2 Out, runners on 1st and 3rd
Perez vs. Braun: liner to the warning track in right...wrong spot.  Oh well.  No extra bases, but Weeks advances.

1:26 p.m.  1 Out, runners on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Kapler: pop-up to Ryan Church, who won't need to take his sunglasses down on this cloudy day.  At least the dome's open.

1:25 p.m.  Runners on 1st and 2nd
Perez vs. Hardy: a hard smash to the left corner, but too fast to allow Weeks to advance past second on Hardy's single.

1:22 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Perez vs. Weeks: a low pitch starts the comeback attempt with a walk.  Any shot of getting it all in the first inning.  If that happens, we'll be here a while.

Top 1st

1:20 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Perez: a short fly to Gabe Kapler ends an inning that offers continued boos and a tisk-tisk by Bob Uecker for booing so early.

1:18 p.m.  2 Out
NY Mets 6, Milwaukee 0
Bush vs. Brian Schneider: long bomb again, just off the yellow part of the wall and in the bullpen.  Boos rain down on Dave Bush like he was George W. Bush at a Democratic convention.

1:17 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Luis Castillo: a bouncer right to Hardy who picks, throws, and finally gets an out after five batters without one.

1:15 p.m.  1 Out
NY Mets 5, Milwaukee 0

Bush vs. Ryan Church: a long bomb to right field over the outstreched glove of Corey Hart.

1:14 p.m.  1 Out, bases loaded.
Bush vs. Carlos Beltran: Mike Maddux steps out right after Beltran earned a walk.

1:10 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st and 2nd
NY Mets 1, Milwaukee 0
Bush vs. Carlos Delgado: working from the stretch, Bush went to a full count before Delgado got a run-scoring single on a blast past Rivera at first.

1:09 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st and 3rd
Bush vs. David Wright: a looper into center for another base hit and it's now dangerous for Bushie.

1:08 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Bush vs. Daniel Murphy: that one lined past J.J. Hardy who should have a big grass stain on his front after the big dive he took.  (Why am I blogging on Hardy's appearance?  I sound like the grand majority of his fan base - women.)

1:05 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Jose Reyes: hi pop up, with Hardy waving his arms and snags it.  Hardy has a huge, bushy beard that I'm not used to...must be September thing.

See a trend?

12:38 p.m.
The Brewers, leading the Phillies by 4.5 games in the NL wildcard and trailing the Cubs by the same margin, face the Mets after a pair of heartbreaking defeats to New York.  It's Dave Bush vs. Oliver Perez in the mound matchup.

Prince Fielder is taking a rare day off at first place, with Mike Rivera taking over for him, and Gabe Kapler is replacing the recently slumping Mike Cameron in center field.
