Yost Wants Torres Over GagneMILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers reliever Salomon Torres will remain in the closer's role when Eric Gagne returns from the disabled list. Manager Ned Yost was asked today if he would remove Torres when Gagne returned. He says the bullpen will stay the way it is for the time being, considering how good a job Torres has done as the closer. Gagne signed a one-year deal worth $10 million in the offseason to be Milwaukee's closer, but he's been on the 15-day disabled list since May 23rd with right shoulder tendinitis. Now he's close to beginning a rehab assignment. He says he agrees he shouldn't become the closer on his return, and he's willing to fill whatever role he can. Torres has nine saves and is 4-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 34 appearances. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
