Former Brewers' All-Star Cited for 7th DUI

DETROIT (AP) -- Former Milwaukee Brewers All-Star pitcher Lary Sorensen has been sent to prison on his seventh drunken driving arrest.

The 52-year-old Sorensen was taken to a hospital and treated for alcohol poisoning after a suburban Detroit police officer found him slumped over the steering wheel of his car last weekend.

For some people, Sorensen's blood alcohol level would have been deadly. Police say it was point-48 -- six times the legal limit.

Sorensen was transferred from the Macomb County Jail to a state prison in Jackson yesterday. His case will be heard by a parole board.

Sorensen went 18-12 with a 3.21 ERA for the Brewers in his All-Star season of 1978. He pitched for eleven seasons with seven teams.

He was also in the broadcast booth for the Detroit Tigers.
