Bottom 9th

4:04 p.m.  3 Out
Marshall vs. Weeks: swingandamiss.  Sweep.

4:02 p.m.  2 Out, runners on 2nd
Cubs 11, Milwaukee 4
Marshall vs. Bill Hall: another base hit into the gap, to the wall, 2 runs score on a double.  Something brewing??

4:00 pm.  2 Out, runners on 1st and 2nd
Sean Marshall vs. Kendall as "Let's Go Brewers" gets louder: bouncer to 3rd and Cedeno gets the force at 3rd after a bobble.

3:55 p.m.  1 Out, runners on 1st and 2nd
Cubs 11, Milwaukee 2
Eyre vs. Cameron: looper to left, base hit, a run scores!  Pigs fly!  Piniella takes two years to get Howry out of the game for a reliever.

3:51 p.m. 1 Out, runners on 1st and 3rd
Eyre vs. Kapler, as more "Let's Go Cubbies" chants continue amidst "Let's Go Brewers" responses: a liner to shallow right, and it drops for a hit.

3:49 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Eyre vs. Bruan, while Fielder continues to yell George Carlin's seven words at home plate ump Doug Eddings who throws him out: bouncer for a base hit to left field.

3:45 p.m.  1 Out
Scott Eyre vs. Fielder: popup that makes Fielder split his bat in two in frustration on the ground, as Edmonds makes the catch in center.

Top 9th

3:42 p.m.  3 Out
McClung vs. Lee: bouncer to third, Counsell backhands it and ends the latest bloodletting.

3:41 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd
McClung vs. Theriot: an easy groundout.  What is it with getting easy outs after tons of damage already ensues?

3:39 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 2nd
McClung vs. Soriano as chants of sweep eminate from the remaining fans, mainly in red and blue: a miracle!  A swinging strikeout!

3:37 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Cubs 11, Milwaukee 1
McClung vs. Fontenot: soft fly to left bounces on the line, two more runs score.

3:32 p.m.  Runners on 2nd and 3rd
Seth McClung vs. Soto: high and tight again, and the entire Chicago contingent boos.  Doug Eddings didn't say anything there.  Next pitch...no problem.  Rest of at-bat: fair ball liner touched by a fan.  Ground rule double.

3:26 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Eric Gagne vs. Edmonds: could it be three off of "Gag me"?  Nope.  He pitched behind Edmonds after three inside pitches and the ump tossed Gagne from the game, despite his arguments and Yost's.

Bottom 8th

3:23 p.m.  3 Out
Howry vs. Hardy: bounces to short, and Theriot ends another threat.

3:21 p.m.  2 Out
Howry vs. Counsell: curveball produces a strikeout.

3:16 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Howry vs. Rickie Weeks: a too-high payoff pitch produces a walk.

At least we broke the 2,000,000 mark in fans this year.  Thanks Brew Crew!!!!!!!!!

3:12 p.m.  1 Out
Howry vs. Ray Durham (PH for Riske): Ramirez with plenty of room takes care of Durham in foul territory.

Let's see...five earned runs given up by Chicago starters in the series.   You don't win if you can't score runs.

Mike Fontenot takes over for DeRosa at 2nd base.

Top 8th

3:09 p.m.  3 Out
Riske vs. DeRosa: as fans chant "Let's Go Cubbies" (something they need not, because they've already gone off), a swingandamiss strike.  Oh well.  Pad the useless stats.

3:08 p.m.  2 Out
Chicago 9, Milwaukee 1
Riske vs. Fukudome: MERCY RULE, PLEASE!  Fukudome just sent a second decker to right field.

3:04 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd
Chicago 7, Milwaukee 1
Riske vs. Ramirez: fair liner past Counsell, another run scores.  Ugh ugh ugh ugh.

3:02 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
David Riske vs. Derrek Lee: not-deep-enough fly to Cameron in Center.

2:58 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Bush vs. Theriot: Counsell's throw from third pulls FIelder off the bag.  Yost pulls Bush out.

2:57 p.m.  1 Out
Chicago 6, Milwaukee 1
Bush vs. Soriano: a majestic bomb to left-center.  Cue the annoying fans again.

2:52 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Daryle Ward (PH for Harden): Fieler unassisted again.  11 straight outs, too late.

Bottom 7th

2:50 p.m. 3 Out
Harden vs. Kapler: swingandamiss.  0-19 for the team in scoring position.  Ugh ugh ugh.

2:47 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd
Harden vs. Cameron: fly to left center, Edmonds jogs four steps and gathers it in, Kapler can't advance.

2:46 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 2nd
Harden vs. Kapler: down the left field line for his second two-bagger of the day.  Lou Piniella saunters slowly out to the mound to get Bobby Howry...wait...they talk four words and Piniella saunters back slowly...slowly...more slowly than Gilbert Brown in a marathon.

2:45 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Braun: why the heck is he bunting?  Pop-up bunt for an out.  Yost is motionless in his face as the Brewers get blasted again.

2:41 p.m.
Cubs 5, Milwaukee 1
Harden vs. Fielder: bomb to right and it gets to the second deck.  About the lowest-register Jim Powell ever has used for a homer.  He's depressed, still.

Top 7th

2:38 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Soto: strike three called.  Begin the annoying "root for the CUUHHHHBBBEEEEEEESSSS" scream during OUR seventh-inning stretch.  Get Ueck on the loudspeaker!

2:36 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Edmonds: wow...it's an out for Edmonds!  Fielder goes unassisted on a grounder.

2:34 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. DeRosa: don't tell me another 1-2-3 inning starts?

Bottom 6th

2:32 p.m.  3 Out
Harden vs. two-time strikeout victim Hardy: bouncer to right, Lee cuts it off, Harden covers...that's just as bad.

2:32 p.m.  2 Out
Harden vs. Counsell: easy fly to center field.

2:30 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Weeks: check swing, goes around...Weeks disagrees and mumbles something under the Cubs' fans happy breath.

Top 6th

2:28 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Fukudome: bouncer to 2nd...easy out.  Easy inning.   No more of them allowed for the Cubs.

2:27 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Ramirez: a fly to right center, and Ramirez got under it.  Kapler with the out.

2:25 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Lee: Kapler takes in a fly to right...Lee's 0-3, the only guy wearing a Cubs uni at the MLB or Little League level who stinks, seemingly.

Bottom 5th

2:23 p.m.  3 Out
Harden vs. Bush: another swingandamiss K.  Ugh ugh.

2:21 p.m.  2 Out
Harden vs. Kendall: a liner to right and Fukudome gloves a juggling catch.  More "Murphy's Law."

By the way, to point a finger at Jim Powell, he's to blame for the bomb.by Edmonds, saying a grand salami would change Cubs' fans minds right before he launched it.  (Thanks, Dan O'Donnell, for reminding me of that.)

2:20 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Cameron: a swingandamiss strikeout, again.

Top 5th

2:17 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Theriot: lined to left, Braun runs 12 steps to his back left and snags it.

2:16 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Soriano: Higher fly to center, Cameron takes 10 steps to the left and snags it.

2:15 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Harden: lined to center, Cameron takes four shuffles to the left and snags it.

Bottom 4th

2:11 p.m.  3 Out
Harden vs. Kapler: pop up to foul ground, Derrek Lee grabs it.

2:10 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 2nd
Harden vs. Braun: power drive to the gap in right center, goes over the fence.  Ground rule double.

2:09 p.m.  2 Out
Harden vs. Fielder: I can hear Harry Caray now: "That wouldn't be a home run in a telephone boof."

2:05 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Hardy: not good...just walk to the bench after that at bat.  Ugh.

Top 4th

2:04 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Soto: a long fly for an out in left.  Cat's already out of the bag.

2:02 p.m.  2 Out
Cubs 5, Brewers 0
Bush vs. Edmonds: deep fly to left, Braun back, gone, grand salami, Cubs crowd goes nuts.  I feel ready to cry uncle.

2:00 p.m.  2 Out, bases loaded
Bush vs. DeRosa: inside 0-2 pitch gets DeRosa right in the back of his arm, and he sinks to his knees.

1:59 p.m.  2 Out, runners on 2nd and 3rd
Bush vs. Fukudome: hit down the right field line, Ramirez holds off from trying to score on a double by Fukudome.

1:57 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
Bush vs. Ramirez: two-out walk, his first.  He's at 53 on the pitch count.

1:56 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Lee: Hardy takes another easy grounder at short.

1:54 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Theriot: broken bat weak grounder to Weeks who gets the out.

Bottom 3rd

1:50 p.m.  3 Out
Harden vs. Counsell: lined to first, Lee leaped up and pulled it out.  Powell said it perfectly: "it's a Murphy's Law kind of series."

1:48 p.m.  2 Out, runner on 1st
Harden vs. Weeks: outside corner strike three looking, and again, a cacophany of claps from red-and-blue clad Cubs fans.  Ugh.

1:46 p.m.  1 Out, runner on 1st
Harden vs. Bush: fists a single to center.

1:44 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Kendall: hi fly to right center, but Fukudome's under it 15 feet from the wall.

Top 3rd

1:43 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. Soriano: fly ball down the line, and Braun makes a running catch.

1:42 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Harden: bunt pop-up, Counsell lets it drop, goes to 2nd, Harden never ran, so the force out...Soto never ran, double play.  SMART double play.

1:41 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Bush vs. Soto: high pitch produces a line drive base hit to left.  He's leaving the ball up too high.

1:31 p.m.  2 Out
Harden vs. Braun: a 95 mph fastball K's Braun.

1:30 p.m.  1 Out
Harden vs. Fielder: bouncer to DeRosa in short right field for an easy out on a half swing.

Top 2nd

1:27 p.m.  3 Out
Bush vs. DeRosa: swingandafoultip strikeout...number two back to back.

1:25 p.m.  2 Out
Bush vs. Fukudome: swingandamiss strikeout - below Bush's right-down-the-middle fastball.

1:22 p.m.  1 Out
Bush vs. Ramirez: pop up higher than Miller Park's roof, seemingly, but Hardy lets it drop in his glove.

Bottom 1st

1:20 p.m.  3 Out
Harden vs. Hardy: swingandamiss strikeout...and too many cheers and claps for the Cubs for my taste at Milwaukee's home stadium.

1:16 p.m.  2 Out
Harden vs. Counsell: liner caught by Soriano and Weeks was running....DOH!!!  He got doubled off despite a handcuffing throw by Soriano.

7:24 a.m.
Cubs fans are probably invading hardware stores in Milwaukee to find brooms to bring to Miller Park after Wednesday night's loss.  There's only one man who can save us against the Cubbies and starter Rich Harden (5-2, 2.10 ERA):

Dave "Thursday's Child" Bush!

Can Super Dave continue his run of dominating Thursday matinees at home?  He nearly no-hit the Blue Jays on June 19th and owned the Rockies on July 10th.

Bush owns a 4-1 mark with a 2.43 ERA in his last nine home appearances.
