UWM's Avery Smith Suspended
MILWAUKEE (AP)-- Senior guard Avery Smith, who led Wisconsin-Milwaukee in scoring last season with 15.5 points per game, has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, coach Rob Jeter says.
The suspension was announced half an hour before the Panthers played Wisconsin-Parkside in their first exhibition game this season Thursday night.
Jeter said Smith was suspended for "a violation of team rules." He would not elaborate.
"As a head coach, I strive to give my players every opportunity and chance to succeed," he said. "But, with the season starting tonight, I need to concern myself with the progress of the entire team and not just one individual."
