Reiterating comments he made in the off-season, Favre had high praise Thursday for rookie receiver James Jones.
"I think he has a lot of potential. He reminds me a lot of (former Packers standout) Sterling Sharpe," Favre said. "He catches everything with his hands, regardless of where it is, and continues running the ball.
"Very athletic, big, strong guy who, to me, is a constant in catching the ball and continuing in traffic, instead of maybe catching it, cradling it and going down or whatever."
Jones, a third-round draft pick from San Jose State, is off to a solid start in training camp. He had only one dropped pass after seven practices.
Jones said he was aware of the comparison to Sharpe made by Favre.
"I watched Sterling Sharpe all the time (growing up)," Jones said. "To be compared to a great receiver like that, obviously, it's an honor. I can't ask for no more than that, that they have that confidence in me and see my ability that I can be a player like that guy."
