| Pitcher | Vitals | 2007 | Synopsis |
Dave Bush #13 |
RHP: No. 3 Starter 6-2, 205 Age: 28 |
12-10, 4.53 ERA, 134 K, 44 BB |
Bush has proven to throw lots of strikes, but also lots of hittable balls that have produced early innings. Consistency will need to be the key for him. |
Chris Capuano #39 |
LHP: on DL 6-2, 215 Age: 29 |
5-12, 5.10 ERA, 132 K, 54 BB, 20 HR |
He's on the 15-day disabled list, and is hoping to successfully rehab his left elbow, turning down season-ending Tommy John surgery. He'll also have to turn down his home run total once he comes back if he wants to keep a spot in the rotation. |
Yovani Gallardo #49 |
RHP: on DL 6-2, 220 Age: 22 |
9-5, 3.67 ERA, 101 K, 37 BB |
If he can come back fully from minor knee surgery, this kid has a chance to become something special. With less than one hit given up per inning, and nearly a strikeout per inning, Gallardo should slide into the number two role with ease. He'll need to dominate if Ben Sheets can't keep healthy. |
Manny Parra #43 |
LHP: No. 5 Starter 6-3, 208 Age: 25 |
0-1, 3.76 ERA, 26 K, 12 BB |
He's got all the potential in the world, and the Brewers will need it quickly with Yovani Gallardo on the disabled list and Parra now in the number five slot. |

RHP: No. 1 Starter 6-1, 225 Age: 29 |
12-5, 3.82 ERA, 106 K, 37 BB |
With his health goes the Brewers season. He hasn't been able to go a full campaign since 2004. If he does this year, and he gets his strikeout dominance back, the trickle-down effect to the rest of the rotation, the bullpen and the lessened pressure on the Brewers' bats should mean a division title. |
Jeff Suppan #37 |
RHP: No. 2 Starter 6-2, 235 Age: 33 |
12-12, 4.62 ERA, 114 K, 68 BB |
His health is consistent - nine straight years with 30 starts. His performance wasn't consistent in 2007 after signing a big free-agent deal. He'll have to improve in April and May to produce at the time the Brewers hired him to, in October, where he historically shines. |
Carlos Villanueva #12 |
RHP: No. 4 Starter 6-2, 215 Age: 24 |
8-4, 3.94 ERA, 99 K, 53 BB |
Chosen over Claudio Vargas, who was released. He has major talent and can turn into more than just a four-or-five guy in the rotation if he harnesses his game. |
