Brett Favre in 1992, in his first win as a Packers quarterback, and in 2007, his latest regular season win. | Photos: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/AP Your Favre ThoughtsClick Here to email your thoughts about Brett Favre's retirement Brett's Newsconference: Related Coverage: Thoughts from fans: 9:43 am: For those of us who have long since hung up our cleats, to watch an Icon of man genuinely bow out gracefully, in my opinion sets the bar even higher in defining class, dignity, and character. The greatest thing bout Favre's career is that he was a football player that just happened to play Quarterback.. Bravo Mr. Favre Respectfully Scott A. Chier 8:50 am: Thank you for the wonderful memories, Brett. The list goes on forever. You have much to be proud of and we are certainly proud and thankful to have had so many awesome years with you. We hope you never doubt what your time here has meant to the Green Bay Packers, the state of Wisconsin, and Pacer fans everywhere - it is something very special and difficult to really put into words. 8:13 am: The torch has been passed. It is time to move on. Whoever takes over as the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, they must remember to be themselves and not like Favre. I believe that Aaron Rodgers will do a fine job this coming year as the starting QB. Rodgers had the ultimate teacher and being able to watch Favre for all this time, I am quite certain Rodgers has learned a thing or two about reading defenses, how to check down, and how to act as a human being. Favre taught us was how to be humble, how to have fun, and why life is good. Thank you Brett and Enjoy your retirement. It would be great to see you on the sidelines teaching the QB's of tomorrow someday, but now is the time to relax. Good Luck to you Rodgers. You learned from the best, but be yourself. Remember, there is no "I" in team. Go Pack Go! Joe Nichols 7:59 am: Brett Favre was the greatest football player ever. He brought excitement into our lives with his enthusiasm for the game and life. Both on and off the field he was an inspiration to all - most importantly a great role model for our children. Eloise Baldauf 5:41 am: He answered the bell every single time for 16 years. Had we been given a choice between the surety of 16 years and the unknown, we would have gladly taken the past 16 years. So now we let him go; it's been a joy and a privledge to watch your entire Packer career. May God continue to bless you and your family. Go Pack! Friday 3/7/08 10:53 pm: Hi, 10:34 pm: As the then single mother of a teenage boy who was living for the day he could play high school football, I decided that I'd better learn a little something about the game. Since I didn't know a field goal from an extra point attempt my education began with watching the Green Bay Packers and their young reckless quarterback. I have been hooked ever since. What a great time to become a Packers fan. The excitement that Brett Favre brought to the game, the team, and the fans is immeasurable. I will forever be grateful that I was able to see that man play football and that he played as long as he did. I shudder to think of what I would have missed if my son had dreamed of being a wrestler... 10:23 pm: My household are die-hard Packers fans and Brett's departure is not going to be more apparent then when we turn on their first game this fall and he's not leading the team. I'm glad I was able to enjoy his entire career. I'm grateful my two sons got to watch the best Packer quarterback ever. You always knew when Brett laced up his shoes that you had a chance to win. It may be a while before we have that feeling about the Packers again. 8:51 pm: Instead of asking all the same 'ole questions that we already knew the answers to, I wish that one of the reporters today would have spoken for the "Packer Nation" and said "THANK YOU" for all that Brett brought to football and fans around the world. He should have got a standing ovation - maybe he did later, but not as part of the press conference. Bret should know that we, the fans, respect him and support his decision. 8:35 pm: I basically grew old with Favre. I got interested in the NFL just prior to Brett coming to the Packers and it was because of him that I remained interested. I just wanted to say that I will miss seeing him on Sundays but he deserves a great round of applause for his graceful exit and I am glad that he can go out on his own terms and not because he had to be carried out following a bad injury. James Peterson Milwaukee 4:59 pm: I've thought of Brett as a role model - as I'm also a father and a husband and a worker. He sets a personal standard we all should strive for - but probably couldn't reach. I've watched him from the stands and on TV for all his career. I feel blessed for that. Sure its very sad for me to see him leave football - but I can understand his decision. There IS more to life than football, and he has every right to discover it - just like we do. We should appreciate his contribution to our lives, and wish him well going forward. And as true Packer fans, we will cheer on the next QB, and the next, and the next. That's what we do. But we won't forget Brett, a part of him will always be with us - and will make us smile. 4:52 pm: Brett Favre... What can you say about a man we all have befriended is some manner over the past 16 years. We probably know more about this stranger then most of our own family members. I have had a heavy heart for Brett and his family with the loss of Erv, and the unbelievable tribute Brett gave him in Oakland. His fight with Vicadin was a true statement of how human he is, and he found it in himself to fight the addiction, an inspiration for us all. I have cheered and gone crazy over so many games, and seen the next to impossible happen, the Vince Lombardi Trophy come home! What can you say... I have to say, he has yet again amazed me, he is going home to be a husband and best of all... a father. So, it's with another heavy heart that I say "so-long" to a true Hero. OK # 12, let's see what you got! Those are some big shoes to fill! Stephen Pantle 4:52 pm: Brett defines integrity at its best. He’s the complete package of gift, grit, and grind and grace (if he doesn’t mind that said about him). I have loved watching him play. I have loved watching him grant “Give a Wish” wishes. I have admired his growth through adversity and how he’s put football in perspective of all that’s important in his life. He’s modeled a loving husband and father. He’s modeled being a true-to-himself man. I will forever miss watching him play, but I am grateful for all the time we had to see him. I have to believe there are other great things in store for Brett and his family. Karen Rodriguez Ripon, WI 3:45 pm: Nothing would make more sense than if fans and the media would graciously accept Brett's decision. He knows he's wanted and loved, so let's show him the respect he's earned and let him go on with his life. I hope Aaron Rogers is given the same support and opportunity to become a legend that Brett had. And, I also hope that Brett eventually realizes it's not about winning, or records, or mistakes, but, relationships. He has a relationship and influence on thousands who he will never meet. He made a difference, and gave us a lot. Can't that be enough? Brett, it is enough. God take you to your next assignment. Warm Regards, 1:44 pm: Today I listened to Brett Favre's press conference and was really impressed by the former #4's eloquence, grace and humbleness. Besides being an athlete for the ages, Favre has overcome some difficult obstacles in his career and life, and the man has come out on top physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. 1:42 pm: I am greatly saddened because I am going to miss seeing number four on the field. I will miss the uncertainty and wildness of his play, which either has you jumping for joy or shaking your head in bewilderment. I will miss the exuberant, kid-like joy and love for the game after scoring a touchdown. He made visiting teams shrink or rise to the occcasion to attempt to beat the great Favre. He was a true competitor! We also saw him grow into a better and stronger person. For me, the defining moment of Brett Favre, which sticks out in my mind, was in one of the early games of his career when a defensive back came up the middle with a clear shot to sack him and, with Brett standing his ground, the defender bounced off of him like he had run into a brick wall. Brett was unmoved! That told me right then he was somebody special and time did not change that. I am glad for him in his decision to retire. To have been able to have played without missing a start and being to walk away with his pride, dignity and abiltiies intact is phenomonal and rare. I could tell he was somewhat tired at the end of this last season, especially in the frigid games. After all, he had played 275 games! How many quarterbacks have played that many games in their career? He is fortunate to have played the way he did and as long as he did and we were fortunate to have been able to witness it! Ron 1:26 pm: We are sad to be losing you Brett! Much happiness to you and your family in retirement! Nothing but love at ya – Sara & Casey! 1:20 pm: Brett Farve not only is an outstanding athlete, but a class act and a gentleman. The only thing I can think of to say in a few short words is; "Thank ya kindly Brett. You dun us proud." 1:20 pm: Brett is a class guy !!! I would love to see him in the stands next year , sharing a brat and beer with us. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING BRETT !!! 1:18 pm: All I can say is “thank you “ to one of the greatest players of the game, we all thank you and your wonderful wife for putting up with us for so many years and still giving us 100 % there will never be another quarterback like you. Again all I can say is “thank you” 12:55 pm: I will miss watching Brett play. It was like watching a little boy play football. He had a youthful spirit that I enjoyed. I can understand his need to retire now, he gave all he could to the Game. Now we need to let his family enjoy their dad, husband, son, and cousin. I will miss seeing his smile on SUNDAYS. I wish Brett and his family the best. THANK YOU BRETT for the past years you shared with all of us Football Fans. 12:54 pm: As much as we all Love him and will miss watching him play!! He has EARNED his right to a Sunday Afternoon Meal with his Family while Watching Football and Relaxing like the rest of US!! 12:53 pm: Brett, To say you have nothing left to give is simply outrageous! You have so much more to give to the sport of football and I really hope that you will continue to share your wealth of knowledge, experience, and love for the game even in retirement. Hate the fact that you’re retiring, but you deserve it after all of these years. You’re the best! Here’s an idea – you stay and say adios to Ted…take his job! Enjoy the next chapter of your life with Deanna and the girls, and may God bless you all in whatever life brings. Cheryl in Neosho 11:34 am: I knew that Brett would retire eventually but not after such a good year with so many different receivers and a front line that really wanted to improve for him. I figured that next year would be the year. I agree with the people who say that the PACKERS DID NOT do enough for Brett. Ted Thompson has always given the impression that he resented having to keep Brett on the team and I firmly believe that he set about getting rid of all the people that were Brett’s colleagues. The last one to that he LET GO was Bubba Franks. He didn’t even trade him so at least the team would benefit from losing Bubba. I don’t believe that he ever told Brett that he wanted him to come back and play. When asked that in the press conference that I saw on TV, Thompson just kept quoting from statements he had on paper in front of him. Unfortunately, Mike McCarthy comes across as just a puppet to Ted Thompson, that he wouldn’t say anything that Thompson didn’t want him to. He also never said out loud and direct that he told Brett that he wanted him back to play for the team. The whole thing smells like a week old fish in your refrigerator. We have the Greatest Quarterback that ever played for the NFL and we treat him like this. Where was the dignity, the warmth, the correct way to do things for his announcement like this. He shouldn’t have had to call ESPN and tell them and that’s how it hit the wires. I’m ashamed of the Green Bay Packer Organization for the first time in my life. I am a lifelong fan – I have stuck with the team through the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and loved and respected them every step of the way. Now I’m not so sure. I could talk on this subject for hours. I’m grateful that Brett Favre has played for us for 16 years and I wish that all the e-mails that you get, you would give to him so he knows how the fans feel. Please Stay One More Year Brett. I will always love you and have a special feeling for you. Thank you. Kathy Bahneman 11:23 am: Brett, please remember the hurt that has been put on the young people of Wisconsin. 10:43 am: I was in Marine Corps boot camp when he came in against the Bengals in 92. I got the news clippings a week later in the mail about the game and about this Brett Favre guy. When I got to my unit in the Marines, I think I drove everybody nuts with my love for the Packers and how great our young quarterback is. It seems like yesterday, but I will always appreciate the many good times, good memories and pride he has given me. He made me so proud to be from Wisconsin and be a Packer fan. Jeremy Hartranft 10:18 am: I am very unhappy about losing Brett to retirement. He is the life of the team, the city, the state, the NFL, not to mention the core of the franchise. But perhaps the welcome back from the new president and the general manager was not there so Brett felt uncomfortable returning. If that is the case, that is a tragedy because we will never see the likes of another quarterback like Brett Favre. He is one in a million. I believe he is too young to leave the game and will miss it terribly, the same as we will miss him. I hope and pray that he will reconsider. None of us can live without the chills and thrills that he provides to us every Sunday. Perhaps I am a bit selfish, but we love Brett Favre, we respect and adore his family, and only wish he would continue playing quarterback for the Green Bay Packers for a bit longer. We the fans owe him so much and we will always be grateful whenever he retires. I just hope it's not now. Wednesday 3/6/08 11:22 pm: Over 36 hours ago we heard the news and I'm still sad and in disbelief - hoping to wake up from this nightmare. 4:28 pm: I am a long time Packer fan I can still remember to Ice Bow like it was yesterday anyway in September of 2006 I was let go from my job after 14 year and I was really down on my self for what happen. My 3 kids pulled there money and got tickets for the home game against Detroit in November to help me cheer up. What really made this very nice what my son was returning from his 2nd tour in Iraqi and will be able to go with me to the game also I have never seen a home game in Green Bay. It was something I will never forget to see Brett play and all the goings on that happens at a Packer game. THANKS FOR THE MEMBERERS BRETT!!!!!!!! Rick Dempsey Mt. Calvary WI. 4:02 pm: Hello, 3:48 pm: Brett should go for President of the USA I'm sure he would win most of the states at least Wisconsin. 3:38 pm: It has been an honor and a privilege to watch Brett play these last 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. I have had the pleasure of attending some of his most memorable moments but the one that will stand out to me the most is the game in Oakland the day after his father passed away. Not so much for the way he pulled himself up and played the game of his life but more for the way the Oakland fans responded to Brett and his families pain. The Oakland fans embraced him as one of their own and showed the class that he has earned from being a “real person” in these days of high priced athletes. With the game well in hand by the Packers, they stayed till the end, waived their signs of support and even at times cheered for him. I for one commend them for essentially taking care of one of our own during a very difficult time and showing the respect he has gained from fans all over this country. I will always have a long lasting respect for Oakland and their fans and I will not forget what they did. Thanks for memories Brett and all the best to you and you’re family!!! Bill Brookfield, WI 3:32 pm: Dear Brett, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard you were leaving; it hit me like a ton of bricks. It clouded my sunny day and stopped me in my tracks. Is it really over? The years we've spent, the successes we've shared and the losses we've endured - now all sealed in the record books. From your come-from-behind win against the Bengals in 1992, to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, to that record-setting day in Minnesota, I was there the whole time. Sure, I got frustrated in the 2002 playoffs against the Rams when you threw 6 interceptions, but the times I spent cheering and dancing around the house after such highlights as a one-play, 82-yard bomb in overtime against Denver in 2007 far outnumber the times I threw my hands up in disgust. I wouldn't trade these past 17 years for the world. Virtually single-handedly, you put the tiny town of Green Bay on the map as one of the football capitals of the world. You brought the concept of relationship into a business that thrives on money. You didn't care about the pursuit of records, you just wanted to do whatever you could to put up a W when the clock hit 00:00. You did it for the love of the game. And now Sundays will be filled with someone besides #4. It'll take a while to get used to that, if I ever do. In your years with us, you brought us a 160-93 record, with only one losing season. Quite an amazing feat if you look at the Packers of the 70s and 80s... I'm going to miss that Mississippi smile, the times you picked up receivers and threw them over your shoulder, the snowball fight with Donald, the shot of you running off the field during Super Bowl XXXI with your helmet raised. Whenever you were on the field, we had a good chance of winning. But now all that's come to an end, and the question now is, 'How did I deal with this?' I cope by realizing that I got the privilege to witness the career of one - if not THE - best quarterback ever to put on pads and a helmet. And he did it wearing the green and gold of the Green Bay Packers. I'm sure this is only one of thousands letters you'll receive like this. Over the years, you've not only graced our television screens, you've graced our hearts. You showed us the passion that we all should have for what we love. You let us into your personal life as well. We cried with you with Big Irv died, and we rejoiced with you when Deanna beat breast cancer. So I say thank you, Brett. And we'll miss you on the field. Green & Gold through and through, Jordan Huenink -Oostburg, Wis 2:25 pm: First and foremost, I want to say thanks. I will not be able to watch another Packer game in the same way, someone will always be missing. As great a football player as Brett is and was, I will always remember all that 'little boy excitement' that he showed every time he threw a touchdown, joking with his teammates, the officials and just truly enjoying the game he had the good fortune to be gifted enough to play. He reminded us every week how to have fun and that although football is a business, he still had fun doing it. I will never forget his 'little boy smiles'. Brett, please come back after a while to say goodbye, just one last time! Brett, Thanks for the Memories! Chris from Delafield, WI 1:40 pm: This is no doubt sad and we are all going to miss Brett, but we all have to remember that we "borrowed" him for 16 years from his family and loved ones both in Wisconsin and Mississippi. He has been faithful to us as a state and as fans of the best team in the NFL. Now it is his time to be a father, husband, and son to the ones that have stood by him through everything. Living in a fish bowl is not easy and he and his family handled that with grace and were gracious about the attention that he got and will still get in time to come. My son, named Brett, after Favre, has only known #4 as the Packers quarterback, (my son turns 10 tomorrow) and he asked me "Now what" and I told him, hang on it will be another ride, not as wild as we have known in the past, but it will be a ride. Let's give him a Wisconsin sized ATTA BOY and let him go in peace. He will forever be in our memories and we were lucky enough to have him as our starting QB for 16 years!! THANKS FOR ALL THE MEMORIES AND FUN GAMES THROUGHOUT THE YEARS BRETT. Good luck in your retirement, and don't forget us up in Wisconsin. We are your second family, a very large one. 1:40 pm: We all knew that this day would come but that being said doesn't make it any easier to say "good-bye". Brett and his family are starting a new life. I only hope that Brett and Deanna continue to visit Wisconsin in the future and stay in touch with this state. For lack of better words to say, a simple "thanks", thanks Brett, for your talent, your charisma, your guts and most of all for just being that "good-old boy" from down south who captured our hearts and our love! You will be missed! 1:33 pm: I'm 54 years old lived in Chicago my whole life and have always been a Packer fan, not too easy in Bear Country but I've always been proud of whom I cheer for here in Chicago. I became a Packer fan because my parents were from Wisconsin and my Dad loved the Packers and honestly it was my bonding time with my Dad on Sundays watching football and especially whenever we were lucky enough to see a Packer game. Or we would drive to Milwaukee to visit my Aunt & Uncle and watch the game there, we were all nuts cheering. I've watched Bart Starr, Paul Horning, Ray Nitsche, etc. but never enjoyed the game more watching Favre on the field. He was exciting and fun it got to where I started going to bars on Sunday just to watch the games. We've been lucky, many games have been viewed in Chicago because of the Bears schedule and theirs and the popularity of the Packers on Monday Night Football. My family and I are really going to miss #4 and there will never be another. The childlike fun he had on the field, cannot be replicated. I'm proud to say I'm a Packer Fan here in Bear Country and I always will be. My two children, 28 & 25 yrs. Old are both proud Packer fans and my husband, well, we bought him a Favre jersey for Christmas and he's worn it on Packer Sundays along with the rest of us. I told him now you own a jersey of a future Hall of Fame player and he's proud also. Thank you for letting me express myself, it's lonely here in Chicago not having lots of people that can share my feelings with. The Bears fans here at my office are already sick of hearing about it, but we all know they wish they had someone like Favre that they could be proud of and honor the way Green Bay Packers will always honor him. Life goes on….we'll always be a Packer Fan through ups and downs. LOVE MY PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mary Perilla 12:38 pm: I am a 58 year old Packer fan. When I heard the news I was saddened that a special era has come to an end. As I watched all the news stations last evening, I cried. That being said, it is time for a change and I look forward to Aaron Rogers taking over at QB. I personally think he will be a great QB. Ron 12:10 PM: There are not many people in the spotlight that you can say "I watched him mature as a person." Brett Favre started out as a wild party boy and evolved into a father and husband (I think you can safely say his wife had a big part of that). He was human just like all of us, except, in that human, all of Wisconsin hung on his every word, followed his personal ups and downs, and were fortunate to watch him every Sunday in the fall for most of a generation. 11:44 am: Is it bad that this is making many of us grown men choke up, even cry? It’s too bad that he is calling it quits… This last year brought hope to Packer fans, and helped us take our minds off, even for a short time, some of the disheartening news out there….Now this Ryan 11:01 am: I think that Brett is leaving at the proper time. He had a great season last year! More importantly, he still is young enough, and in good health to enjoy time with his family. He has given up a lot family time through the years. I will miss him on the playing field, but he has had a truly memorable career. Good luck in all your future endeavors, Brett! Enjoy your family!! 9:20 am: Brett, ONE MORE! BOWL or BUST! With YOU the team is so close. Who cares what happens! Scott, 9:13 am: Like everyone I to am a saddened by the thought of Brett Favre retiring but people need to get ahold of themselves, some of the comments that I have heard made such as he needs to explain himself and why he is retiring is just ludicrous. I do believe at some point he should have a news conference to say thanks to the millions of people who have been here through the good and the bad and to give all of the Packer Fans the sense of closure. I believe that at some point he will do this, and am certain that it will be soon but also believe that he needs time to let this sink in himself, it is not an easy thing to do, leave a job(which is what it is) that you are truly passionate about and love with all your heart and know that this is a final chapter in that part of your life.People just need to give him the space he deserves and respect his decision at this time, and remember all of the great games and years of his life that he and his family have shared with all of us. I say lets all show the true meaning of a Packer Fan wish Brett and his family the best of luck and look forward to a new Era with the Packers. Sincerely, 9:10 am: I never watched much football That's when Brett caught my eye And through the years of learning My heart just fell in love He's masculine and silly We all could see that by He's married to a beauty And now he's saying goodbye So please let's try to honor him We never will forget him Marlene Romeo 8:30 am: The reason I like Brett is his spirit and utter passion for the game. That’s what I’ll miss most. He truly LOVES his job! I remember that one game where he was trying to pull the defense offsides to get the 5 yard penalty and 1st down and the other team wasn’t falling for it. Classic Brett starts laughing and is forced to call a timeout. What a riot! Thank you for letting me share that. 7:50 am: Still in shock as are most Packer Fans. The specials on TMJ were great and although the tears are still flowing they are helping the healing process. Debated about going to Fan Fest but maybe that will help also. 7:41 am: Effective March 4th 2008 all calendars of Packers fans have a new benchmark to mark the passage of time. There's BC; there's AD; and now there's PF (post Favre). 7:22 am: Farewell to Four Mary Rode 6:08 am: Good morning. 7 years ago the company for which I worked was acquired by a foreign firm. The situation was not working out for me and I had to make a decision as to whether or not I would quit after 24 years. I cried a few times before making the final decision. I cried after making the decision to leave. The last thing I wanted to do was see anyone or talk to anyone from work for quite awhile. And I certainly was not in the public spotlight. I think people are being terribly insensitive to Brett Favre's situation. It is a very emotional process he is going through and I have no problems with him not wanting to have public interviews at this time. That will probably come. The Packer Nation needs to show better class and allow Brett some privacy until he is comfortable with talking about his retirement in public. Show some respect, people. Brett deserves it! Bob Fahl Packer fan since the early 60's. Ice bowl idiot. In the stands for the snow bowl against the Seahawks. 12:46 am: Jan 4, 2004. I became a die hard Packer fan. Having grown up with a family of Packer fans, the bug never had bit. Moving to WI 5 months before this great Seattle game, I was bit about 2 months into the season. Guess what? The bug is still biting. I LOVE THE PACKERS!!!! I have been very fortunate to attend at least one game since then including the win against Seattle on that day, and was lucky enough to snag a ticket to his last game. All covered up in the cold at the end of that game, my thoughts were like many others. With a pass (read interception) like that, he’s for sure coming back. Now, I think it was fitting of our dare-devil, no holds barred, much beloved quarterback. Sure, I’m bummed, to put it simply, but we all knew it was coming. Today’s the day to celebrate being a Packer fan and to wish OUR Brett a Happy Retirement! We will miss you. Brooke from Greenfield Tuesday 3/5/08 11:33 pm: It's been a long day and somewhat overwhelming as every station here in Green Bay shares a montage of Brett's greatest moments...I have forever been a Packer fan...but Brett made me a football fan...the game will miss him and I count myself one of the lucky ones who was able to watch him in person. I hope for every great memory he gave us...he finds one of his own in retirement! Chris in Green Bay! 11:19 pm: Brett brought to life the magic of a dormant team. Stories of Lombardi, Starr, and Hornung were told to me by my Grandfather, but went almost forgotten until the emergence of a player, a person, a father, and a son who showed everyone in the world that you can show up for work every day and still enjoy your job. This is a man who told the world he had a drug problem, got help, then conquered his demons and the entire NFL. Brett taught us all about the how to persevere in life, and NEVER EVER give up. The thing I will miss most about #4 is, every time the offense executed an incredible play, he would look up into the crowd for Deanna and his daughters to share that moment with them. He not only played for himself, his team, and us the fans, but also his family he loves so much. We got to know Irv through Packers Sunday, then mourned when he passed. I never met Brett personally, but I know he is my friend. Thanks for the feeling of ALWAYS having a shot at victory, seventeen years is a long time to have that feeling. 11:17 pm: I know it is a repeating theme but I must say I feel so very blessed to have lived during the Favre era and that by location, I am lucky enough to call him one of our own. I was there when we pronounced his name "Favor" and thought he would never surpass Don the Magic Man. Thank you, football gods, that Ron Wolf was not as close-minded, mean-spirited, and talent spotting-deficient as Jerry Glanville!! What a ride you gave us and what a void you will leave. Thank you, sincerely, for your passion, your humor, your honesty, your openness, your growth, your humanity, your blue jeans, your smile, your strength, your team spirit...but most of all, thank you for your belief that when you give your word, you will honor it and give your best without fanfare or negotiation. 9:55 pm: When I first heard that Favre had retired I was driving home from work. I thought okay, whatever, he deserves to go out the way he wants; but the more I heard the more I thought of the great times I had watching someone enjoy a game so much that he gave me the enjoyment of the game. The tears flow knowing when the Pack are back in the fall Brett won't be there in the flesh - but I know he will be there in spirit. Thank you Brett for all the wonderful years. We love you! 9:47 pm: I am very disappointed about Brett's retirement. However, it was an awesome ride while it lasted. What I want to know is what brand of golf driver would Brett recommend? I'm in need of a new one and I'm sure he will have plenty of time to evaluate which one is the best. Enough with the sappy crap. I don't think Brett would condone this (that means you Mr. Cianciola a/k/a "Man Crush"). The sun will come up tomorrow, except in Wisconsin, where it will snow. 8:32: I grew up a Bears fan (yes, shun me all you want) but Brett Favre was the only reason I’ve changed my awful ways and am a Packers fan now. I watched him for as long as I can remember growing up (since my family was a bunch of Cheeseheads), and I’m thankful that he’s left me with such fond memories of Sunday Packer games. Thanks Brett! -Ian Schmit 8:08 pm: I'm 21, and therefore am one of the many young people who today feel a sense of loss with knowing the one constant in their many memories from football is at an end. In my mind, Favre=Football, and I am going to sadly have to rethink and come to new terms with my devotion to the game. Though bittersweet are my emotions right now, I am so grateful that I was able to grow-up, mature, and cherish the game as Favre did over the years. Here's to him, and my fantastic childhood. Tom Mackie, Madison, WI 6:52 pm: I feel about the same as I did when NASCAR lost Dale Earnhardt back in 2001. Even though Brett is still with us on this earth, the sport will never be the same without him. I am just glad I became a fan at a young age and was able to witness his greatness. 6:50 pm: I, as a life long Packers fan, will miss Brett Favre very, very much. However, that being said, I want to wish Brett and his family a very happy life-you all deserve it. Even though I will miss you, I will always have the memories of all the happy times over the last 16 years that you have brought to me and all Packer fans. 6:47 pm: Many Packers fans such as myself literally can't remember watching a game without Brett, and I'm 27 years old. He personified the Packers for a whole generation of fans and gave us all some great memories. I was fortunate enough to be at the NFC Championship game when they beat the Panthers; just one of many games I'll never forget. The Packers and their fans were fortunate to have such a great leader on the field and, more importantly, a great role model off the field. 6:25 pm: Brett thanks for all the 11 years of play offs which you took us to in which you and your team teams put Green Bay back on the Map in the NFL. 6:23 pm: As a Packer fan living in Jacksonville, Florida, I have to say that the best memories are when he came to play the Jags and beat the snot out of them while they were still under Tom Coughlin on a Monday night football game. It was cold, wet, but it was awesome to see Brett take the trailing Packers to a victory by dominating the 4th quarter and throwing hail mary's like nuts. What a tremendous athlete, man, icon, legend, father, husband, Team Leader and AMERICAN. Thank you Brett for all the years of wonderment just watching you lead your team, your fans, your state to all the joys we had because of your committment to the Packers and to being a man. Tears came early today in the home of the Dohse's as this retirement news came GO PACK GO!!!!!!!! 6:06 pm: I am close to Brett in age...and I was lucky enough to have watched one of the last games at County Stadium, one of Brett's early games, and I was also there when he ended his time at Lambeau. For his love of the game, his courage and his perservence, I will always consider him a him a great player, a great man and a hero that I will follow for the rest of my days....Thank you Brett, and for you, I will always be grateful 6:02 pm: It is certainly a "dark" day in Packerland... 5:59 pm: I am so happy for Brett and his family. This is a well deserved time for them all. We have been honored here in Wisconsin to have him represent us every Sunday for 16 years. He is a true hero to me as far as family and his giving to the community. God bless them all. 5:49 pm: As the wife of a Packer fan who didn't know what shape a football was when we got married 33 years ago, and the mother of three boys who have or are still wearing #4 in high school and college football, COME ON PACKER FANS!!!! Let's rejoice in having had a QB and quality person like Brett Favre for 16 years. All the talk is like he is DEAD! Am I disappointed and saddened that we experienced an end of an era today? Absolutely! Did I get a little teary this morning? Yes. But instead of on-and-on woulda, coulda, shoulda, let's all say "THANKS BRETT. WE WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ALL THE BEST AS YOU MOVE INTO THE NEXT STAGE OF YOUR LIFE!" We need to stop picking apart his life and let him get on with his life. He's given us all he can and then some. You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, BRETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joan Weeks
5:42 pm: Brett, John R. Parks 5:18 pm: It’s hard to say goodbye, Brett, but you’re doing it the right way. You’ve earned the spot as one of the best QB’s ever, you’ve shown our kids that, no matter what the level of play, it’s still only a game and you should have fun while you’re on that field and, most of all, you are leaving while you are healthy! Enjoy your retirement, Brett! And enjoy spending Sundays with your family! You’ve earned it! Tim 5:15 pm: Sunday won't be the same without #4 on the field. I'm happy he's going out his way. I'm sad about all the Moss talk - how could anybody think he left because of a story like that. I don't believe it. We have wonderful memories and are blessed to have had him on our team. We need to let go - but it's very hard. God's Blessings to him and his family - it's well deserved. 5:06 pm: One of the saddest days in my life. Brett you will be missed very much, thank you for all the great memories!!!!! 5:01 pm: The NFL is now called the No Favre League. Jim from Seminole Fl. 4:50 pm: I have only been to about 10 Packer games, but to see Brett play live in even 1 game.PRICELESS.Thanks Brett !! 4:27 pm: I think the reason why Brett left was wrong. I feel he owed Packers fans a announcement and I final year. While I will take away many good memories this hurts the most. linda 4:18 pm: I have always appreciated how much fun Favre has while playing the game. From throwing snowballs to throwing touchdowns he always is enjoying the game. I am saddened to see him go, but so happy for all his accomplishments and what he has done for the game. God bless you Brett! 3:54 pm: Brett; 3:44 pm: What an incredible gift to Wisconsin Brett Favre has been to us all. I have finally stopped crying and I’m trying to be positive but the grief is overwhelming. We will always love you Brett. Cant wait to hear you do NFL broadcasts—please take Troy Aikmans job, ok? Campsie Milwaukee/Oshkosh 3:40 pm: I know I'm just some average freshman kid, who thinks Brett is my idol but he is more than that. People don't really apreciate to the fullest how singlehandedly, he not only saved the Packers, but the whole state of Wisconsin. This was a man who fought people deception and took grasp of his situation in Green Bay. Many people though he was a bust and we wasted that 1st round pick on him. But, after 17 straight years of being the starting Q.B. for the Pack, he really proved us wrong. 3:36 pm: For more years than anyone would have dreamed, Brett has been our focus during some of the most exciting football possible; touching my father, me, my sons, and their sons. We have been blessed with, what will become known as, one of the greatest heroes to have played any professional sport. Thank you sports gods for your gift to us, & thank you Brett for a marvelous ride. Welcome Brett to Post Football life with the rest of us. Now help us pray that the same sports gods smile on Mr. Rogers, who will try to play Packer Football without Favre. Henry, Mike, Michael & Mark, and Sons 3:21 pm: It is a sad day in Wisconsin to see Brett retire but it was a day that had to come sooner or later. When looking back on Bretts career there are so many games that stick out in my mind, but the one that sticks out the most is the Monday Night game against the Oakland Raiders in which he had one of the best games of his life after learning his father passed away.To this day I can not believe anyone could do what he did after hearing that a parent has just passed away. It just went to show the courage and the mental toughness he had. I have watched many games in my life but after this one was over and he was shown walking off the field i couldn't but help cry. This game will always be the one in Bretts career I will never forget. Thanks for the memories Brett, you will never be forgotten by any of us Packer fans. 2:58 pm: First of all, THANK YOU BRETT, this is like a favorite song on the radio. You love to listen to it, and you never want it to end, however you know it will.. The same with the Favre era. We knew it was going to end, just didn't want it to. It is such a bitter sweet day for Wisconsin and fans around the world. So happy are we for you that you can walk away from the game on your own 2 feet, but so sad are we that we will never see you play again. You were something so special to the NFL, we are so fortunate that you chose Green Bay as your team. May God bless your family for years to come. Have a great life. We can't wait to see you when they retire the good ole #4. You are awesome. 2:46 pm: I can just hear Big Irv Favre upstairs saying " Brett get the heck out there and Play"! Its been a fun ride getting the chance to see the LEGEND play at Lambeau being a season ticket holder and watching him all the years home and away. You knew this day had to come but I have to say I was surprised this was the day after last years performance! I hope Brett comes back to have a retirement news conference at Lambeau also! 2:42 pm: As much as I don't want to admit that he is actually leaving, it was bound to happen sooner or later. He was a phenomenal player and we will all miss watching him on Sunday afternoons. What a great loss for the NFL, the Packers and especially the fans in Wisconsin! To the whole Favre family - thank you for sharing your husband/father/son with us. We will truly miss him and everything he represents. There are few professional athletes that have given so much of their time, heart, and soul to their sport. Brett - Enjoy your retirement. You deserve it!!! And thank you for so many wonderful memories. 2:39 pm: You were the best of the best. I feel very honored to have seen you play in many games. I will continue to always be a Green Bay Packer Fan. You will be missed. Now go raise your girls and enjoy the rest of your life! Scott Grand Rapids MI. 2:30 pm: Brett, thank you for the MEMORIES. The joy, exuberance & love of the game that you showed on the field over the past 16 years was very contagious and exciting. Due to your on-field leadership and your gutsy play and attitude, you brought the Packers back into a winning tradition. Although I am very happy that you are leaving at your own terms - at the top of your game - I feel sad at the same time that the Favre era is now over. Thank you again. Express our thanks to Deanna and your daughters as well. See you when your number is retired. May God bless you and your family as you undertake new ventures. 2:27: Brett’s dedication to the game of football and the Green Bay Packers will never be surpassed! Lambeau Field will never be the same! God’s blessings to Brett, Deanna, and the girls as they travel a new journey in their young lives! We love you and will miss you. Peg Hasse 2:21 pm: Brett; Thank you for representing to our children the positive qualities and spirit of being a professional athlete. You represent: -Being one that is competitive to win but in the harmony of the team! -Being one that keeps the sport “fun” and yet determined to succeed! -Being one that remembers the importance of his family in both good times and bad. -Being one that knows when it’s time to leave something you love to do something else. Thank you for all the memories both now and in the future in whatever you choose to do. We will be watching…Susan G. 2:18 pm: I only have one thing to say regarding a great career and many great memories. “Thanks for letting me watch” Jeff - Shorewood 2:13 pm: Brett Favre began playing for the Packers when I was eight years old. I’ve grown up with him and it is Favre who drove me to love Packer football. I cannot say I’m shocked he’s decided to retire, although hearing the news today was a surprise. He is a decent, honorable man and I hope – no, I know – he will go down in history as one of (if not THE) greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. My only regret is that I never got to see him play at Lambeau. To Brett, I say: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for games that left us hoarse from cheering. Thank you for passes that stopped our hearts. Thank you for a lifetime of memories. Enjoy your beautiful family and a happy, happy retirement. Sincerely, Amy 1:58 pm: This is truly a sad day for me. I have always looked at Brett Favre as more than a great football player. I coach several youth sports, and I cannot count the number of times I have referred to Brett when teaching the young athletes about sportsmanship, work ethic, and team first attitude. To me this is more important than all of the records he has broken. I cannot think of another NFL player that has more fun playing the "game" he loves. He is the definition of what a true athlete should be. A friend of mine has been an avid Bears fan all his life. His response to today's news was not of jubilation. He is disappointed that he will never get to watch #4 play again. I am trying to think of a current professional athlete that would cause fans of other teams to feel that way - but I cannot. Thank you Brett for all of the memories! Especially, thank you for being a regular guy and helping us all to realize that it truly is just a game. Jamie from Manitowoc 1:57 pm: Brett Favre's legacy has touched the entire NFL and its fans, not just Green Bay. As a Dallas Cowboys fan living in Packer country, I have enjoyed watching Brett play the game as it should be played. He embodies toughness, skillfullness, passion for the game, etc. He is a true "role model" for young athletes. The way he has overcome adversity during his career speaks volumes and could be included in our schools curriculum under a course called "committment and excellence." While I am glad that Brett has never won in Dallas, I will be one of many non-Packer fans sad to see him go. 1:39 pm: Thanks Brett for MANY great memories! 1:35 pm: We have lost the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL..... Brett thank you for your many years of service and dedication.... Mr. Thomas, it only took you a few years to break the back of the most dedicated player the NFL has ever seen. I really hope sitting on all that cap money keeps you warm at night, knowing you had the chance to keep the legend one or two more years and make that super bowl run. Or do we need that extra money to pay Aaron Rogers medical bills as he tries to make it through training camp next season. The central division north teams thank you......... Bill from Franklin 1:28 pm: Just mention "Brett" and everyone knows who you are referring to. No need for a last name. Brett has always been so exciting and so much fun to watch! . What a great career he has shared with us! I will miss watching him, but wish him only the best in whatever he decides to do next. Carol 1:22 pm: thank you Brett for your spirit and courage where you were you invinsible . there will never be another football player like Brett Favre. those of us who had the privlege to watch him each week are lucky indeed. good luck to you. 12:42 pm: I've enjoyed the ride with Brett and will miss him on game days. He brought the kid out in all of us. Thanks Brett for all the wonderful memories. Bill from Oshkosh 12:40 pm: Brett will go down as the greatest player to ever play this game! He was the person who went on the field to play and have fun!! not just to show up. It was always about the game, to play to win. Then with all the adversity His dependence on pain killers He told us he had a problem. Then his Dad, Brother in law, Then Deanna with Breast Cancer. He has made this man proud to be a fan! Proud to know he made me and everyone in the state of WI part of his life! I have never met him but will always think of him as a friend!! Thank you Brett !! I wish you the best!! Thanks for the memories!! Please don’t be a stranger!!! A Proud Fan Bruce Kudick 12:39 pm: Thank you Brett for giving your unbelievable talent, your legendary work ethic, your unselfish mentoring of the youngest players, your ABSOLUTE LOVE OF THE GAME, to the Packers for the last 17 years. I remember watching your first game played as a Packers and listening the next day to sports reporters trying to not only pronounce your name, but also to explain how you played. It was evident from that first game that you were something beyond special and the Packers Nation were to begin down the road to victory once again. I could not even begin to narrow down the best of the best, but the last game at County Stadium does stand out for how it epitomized Brett's "it's not over, 'till it's over mentality." Brett was the ultimate warrior! We were all Blessed to experience you wearing the green and gold for the last 17 years - I hope you are Blessed in the future with the memories of a career second to none. God Speed, Brett! 12:18 pm: To Whom it may concern: I am sorry to hear that Brett is deciding to retire. I would have liked to see him come back and possibly play 1 to 3 more years or maybe more. I know that we will be ok with Aaron Rodgers as are starting quarterback. Good luck in your retirement Brett and hope to see you visit Green Bay during your retirement. Nicholas J Orsinger, Contractor 12:17 pm: It is sad, but OH!!! The great Memories.!!! My favorite memory, the Hail Mary pass in Denver, this past season. Awesome!!!! And so is Favre!!! Packer’s Sunday game is a tradition in our home and a time to bring the family and friends together. He was and still is an inspiration ! I am thankful that I was able to take my son to a game in Green Bay. I wanted him to see the greatest QB of all time, and been able to tell his children that. Brett, congratulations to you on a job well done! WE love you and will miss you.. Enjoy your retirement.. as much as we enjoyed you! you deserve it. And don’t be a stranger! 12:14 pm: Brett was and will always be a true professional. He is in an elite class as someone your kids can look up too which is rare in todays sports. Kevin P. 12:13 pm: Today Wisconsin's gray skies have become a whole lot grayer. Turning on the television for some morning news, there is no Today Show... no Regis... no Good Morning America, not even coverage of Hillary's last stand... 12:08 pm: Favre chooses March fourth to march forth. 12:07 pm: We wish Brett the very best and thank him for everything he has done. The Packers will never be the same, he brought so much excitement to the game, we were on the end of our seats, standing and shouting, as if we were at the stadium. Packer games are family time at our home, in our hearts Brett Farve will always be a Packer! We will miss you Brett! 12:04 pm: With all sports these days seemingly filled with scandals and big money contract holdouts, one individual fans could always count on to be better than all of that was Brett Favre. I can’t think of a better role model my 13 year old son. One unique item I find fascinating is that no matter what football team you cheer for, 99% of football fans respect and love to watch Favre play. The NFL won’t be same. Have fun in retirement Brett! Paul Haines Tulsa Ok. (Milwaukee Native) 11:47 am: Changing of the Guard in the NFL – How can the NFL ever replace a Brett Favre? Each and every season, the world would wait to watch the poster boy from Southern Miss who lit up the field like the STAR that he had become. He is a throw back, a fierce competitor and warrior that kept us glued to our seats with his (sometimes) unconventional play-making ability. Most importantly, Brett is human. We saw it in his life; we saw it on the football field. He downplayed his accomplishments because he is a true “Team Spirit.” Brett always wanted what was best for the Packers. There is no other active quarterback playing the game today that shows Brett’s joy and old school toughness. And now that he has retired, there will be no other to replace the iron man who played football not just for the Packers and their fans. Brett played football for the love of the game. God Bless You #4 – You will be missed!!! Janice W. 11:47 am: It's a sad day in Packerland, tinged with a small bit of excitement about the future and what lies ahead for the team. Chris Joseph 11:47 am: I married a man from Wisconsin whose only request was that I cheer for the Packers. Brett, you’ve made that easy. Your talent for the game is unparalleled, but your love for life is passionate and it showed in every game. I never saw unnecessary showboating or ego. You have always stayed true to who you are and put your family first. It is great to have a sports hero that our kids can and should look up to. This Packer fan will miss you! 11:39 am: Why would Brett retire knowing that his last pass was an interception? David J. Bauldry 11:37 am: Where ever you may be: Packers and football fans to have a toast for Mr. Brett Favre tonight at 4:42 p.m. Green Bay time (the number of career TDs)! Please spread the word. I'm still in denial. -- 11:35 am: I am devastated. I knew this day would come, I just didn't think it would be today... or tomorrow. The fact is I'll never be ready for this. I had always hoped that Brett would finally pick a year to be his last and let us know going into that season. That way we'd be able to cherish every moment we had left (as if we hadn't been doing that his entire career), knowing that when the final second had expired - he'd be gone. Instead he's held us in purgatory the last few seasons - almost toying with us, leaving us to wonder if he'll be back to give us just one more memory. He's given us so much joy over the years, it's just too hard to say goodbye. I'll find my peace, but it won't come today. We'll miss you old friend. We'll never forget you. You'll always be our Michael Jordan. Ryan McHale 11:31 am: I am so bummed! I wanted at least one more year to celebrate the greatest football player to watch! I was caught off guard. I thought last year maybe but seeing what they accomplished this year _ I thought maybe he'd give it another shot. 11:21 am: Brett, THANK YOU so much for all the great years of enjoying Packer football!! Please don’t be a stranger to our state. You will be truly missed!! Sam Silverstein Brown Deer, WI 11:20 am: no question #4 made a mistake and he will regret this decision. As it sits today he goes out as the #1 QB of all time and no one but the Manning brothers will take that away from him. I like his style taking away the hot air from the OBAMA and HILLARY "stupid tuesday" campaigns. It is just like Favre to put himself ahead of two of the weakest if not the most pittifull presdential candidates the USA will ever see. 4 the love of the game thanks 4 One more season. Mark Ross and Ethan Paulat Sun Prairie WI 11:19 am: I grew up watching Brett Favre, I don't know how to act. This was a true shock. I thought Brett had at least two more years in him. Arguably the best QB in NFL history throws an INT as his last pass is a true shame. At least baseball season is coming. 11:18 am: I am a huge football fan, and have always thought of Brett Favre as a role model. This man has done so much for the Packer organization and for them to basically turn there back on him, I say "Shame on you Packer Organization"
because you have wronged the Greatest Quarterback EVER, I will honor him and his retirement by retiring from the Packer Fan Nation. God Bless you and your family Brett and Thank you sooo much for all your years. You will be missed!! A Now Former Packer Fan, Brian Buske 11:16 am: As I sit here at my job in NYC. I cant seem to get much work done. Like the day Favre took over when I was in the sixth grade back in 1992, I too never missed a game. I keep thinking Im going to wake up from this nightmare. We all knew it would happen someday….but that someday should not have been today. I feel like I just lost someone special to me….I guess its because I did. Thank you Brett for everything. Ill be at the bar. Andrew Anthony Vergolina 11:11 am: I am sitting in my office in Sacramento, CA listening to 620 in disbelief. I skipped my college graduation ceremony to attend the last Packer’s game at County Stadium and, ironically, attended the NFC Championship game in January. Having met him on several occasions I can only say that Favre is a better person than his is a football player. That says it all. 11:08 am: I'm actually in morning, and will be wearing black for the rest of the week. I would ask that every GB Packer fan wear black for the remainder of the week. Brett represented what was truly great about the sport. Every Sunday he gave us a chance to escape all the sadness and pressures of our lives. For those few hours every Sunday we had pure joy! We THANK YOU Brett for giving us something to look forward to each week...sometimes it is all we had to get us through from one week to the next. There are no words to express that kind of hope that you brought to all of our lifes. The entire state of Wisconsin and each and every GB Packer fan everywhere will never forget you. You will be forever missed, God bless you and your family. Julie in Randolph, New Jersey 11:02 am: I feel like i just lost a family member. I love you Brett, I want to thank you for sharing your life with us through all the goodtimes and bad times and bringing the glory back to the packers. I are the best quarterback ever. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy the ride with you and your family you are welcome here anytime. M.V.P. #4 God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!M.V.P. 11:02 am: When I first heard Charlie Sykes reporting this this morning, I thought there was a harsh joke being played. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I do not know for sure whether or not another Randy Moss misfire was behind Brett's decision. If it was, and Brett felt that Randy was a necessary cog in the Packer's Super Bowl hopes, then what does that say to the young and highly talented wide receivers they have now? I digress, though. That being said, I am going to miss the guy, despite the handful of absolutely mindbogglingly bad choices during some games. Still, he was arguably the best Quarterback to play the game. It will be hard to watch a Packer game without #4 under center. I want this email to end on a high note, so I want to list my favorite Favre moments. - Super Bowl XXXI - Brett running off the field after completing the game's first score. - Oakland, 2003 - Can't really say much more beyond what hasn't already been said about this game. - Denver, 2007 - Brett showing his critics that he can, indeed, still launch the long ball as accurately as ever. - Chicago, 1996 - Probably by far the most fun game I have ever seen during that great season. But that's probably because I'm not a Bears' fan. - Green Bay, 2008 - Deluged in snow, Brett decides to take time out of the game versus the Seahawks to snowball fight with Donald Driver. 10:50 am: He would have stayed..........I blame Thompson................what was he thinking? We had another year or so with Brett..............so sad........my heart is breaking! 10:44 am: Wow, it's over. Let the Rodgers era begin. It is a sad day, I am not suprised but it still is a shock......Favre era is over. Just like when Reggie White died, I heard the news on WTMJ in my vehicle, Brett Favre retired. It had to happen sometime! No one is to blame, it's just the way it goes. I don't buy what Buss Cook says or the Moss thing. It is just the way it goes! The bottom line is the Pack will have alot of money to obtain more talent on defense and will now have the time to aquire a veteran QB to backup Rodgers, or draft one. Rodgers was a great pick a few years ago, so the future looks good. The future is not bleak, it's going to be another great year! I think we can win the division....GO PACK 10:41 am: Hate to see you go! You were one awesome quarterback and will be missed!
Cheryl Hart 10:39 am: God Bless you Brett for the years you gave us and God Bless you in your retirement. Please enjoy your retirement as much as we have enjoyed watching you play. You will be missed, that smile, the arms in the air with the fingers pointing up, the other boyish gestures along with the running down the field after every touchdown. Even at 39 you never gave up any of your boyish traits. And that’s why we enjoyed watching you all these years, you never changed. You will be loved by the state of Wisconsin forever and will truly be missed. Wishing you happiness and fun in your retirement. A Favre fan 4-ever!!! 10:37 am: Sure, it's sad. He deserves all the love Packer nation and the rest of the world give him. He deserved to go out on his own terms. But it was time to move on. In order for the Packers to move forward, they need to look to the next quarterback. I celebrated when I heard the news. We were not going to WIN again with him at the helm. He failed miserably in the BIG games the last few years (okay, he had a nice game against Seattle, but the Packers were superior in every phase of that game). I get the love. I feel the love. I know what he did for this franchise. But this is a new team. And it's not HIS team. I'd just ask all the Packer fans to remember that they love the Packers first. Favre had become bigger than the Packers. And of course he will be for the rest of this year. Then we can finally move on. Mike 10:24 am: Why is everyone trying to find someone to blame. Take Brett Favre's words as truth. He just wanted to retire! 10:24 am: I honestly hope that fans across this country aren’t sad. This man has given us some wonderful memories. The greatest gift he gave was the love for the game. My son who will be 16 this year, can sit and say to many,The only quarterback I have ever known was Brett Favre. How many other fans of other teams can say that? I wish Brett Favre and his awesome family the best. Michelle L. Palmateer 10:19 am: I finally got it this year-the Green Bay Packer bug! I couldn't have picked a more exciting year to catch it either. I may not have followed the Pack as closely as most of Wisconsin, but the one thing I have learned is that Brett Favre is the greatest example of a GOOD SPORT.(not something we see in professional sports...) I am going to take his que and be the same. With that, I wish this man who has worked hard at making our lives a little better each Sunday for the past 17 years the VERY BEST RETIREMENT!!!! Sincerely, Julie Stellmacher,Jefferson WI 10:17 am: Brett, thanks for the memories gary 10:10 am: There is nothing more to say except good bye Ted Thompson, for him not to spend a 4th round pick for arguably the greatest receiver to ever play the game, and then a few months later ask Brett to step down is inexcusable. With 60k people on the waiting list for season tickets (watch that number plummet) Thompson knows he does not have to put a winning product out on the field because the revenue from season ticket holders will always be there he has made some decisions that may be fiscally responsible but as for motivating and building a fan base he could not have missed the mark any further. If in fact this is true I say THANK YOU BRETT for giving me and my sons many hours of bonding time as we watched you throw into double and triple coverage, pick up receivers and carry them across the field, taunt opposing d-Linemen, making the impossible plays look easy and the easy ones look impossible. We watched you grow from a young man into the man you are today, and this has been a great lesson to my kids. There will NEVER be another QB like you my friend and you will be GREATLY missed. Chicago is looking for a GM everyone knows you have been making their decisions for them anyway. 10:08 am: I think it has been an AWESOME run. I wish Brett and his family all the best for a wonderful future. The Favre family has lent a man of many means, to a state, country, and world, who have enjoyed him as if he were their own flesh and blood. It is hard to let go of something/someone who creates such joy, lives like the hardworking people he represents, and is down to earth, not the “typical” superstar. It will be hard to let go of a man of such caricature, a hero and a role model. I am very sad to see him leave, but I am happy that he can retire with such a great year behind him……He will be SURELY MISSED !!! God bless Brett Farve, and Good luck !!!! 9:58 am: Just like I don't remember the FAT Elvis...I'll only remember Brett for all the great...all the fun and all the records he broke...Brett has left the building! 9:58 am: Not surprised! Brett Favre is a competitor and I believe that he took a look at his play in the last game against the Giants and being honest with himself came to the conclusion that he just didn't have it for those type of conditions. And in Green Bay you are going to face those conditions. Thank you Brett! You are the best! We are sad but we wish you all the happiness in the world. Sincerely, Dave Simon 9:57 am: I can't believe it. Where do I send the flowers. What get's me is have you guys seen the upcoming 2008 schedule??? One of the easiest ones in recent history. Michael in Cedarburg 9:55 am: It feels like a death. My stomach is sick and the breath has left my body. Diane V
