This week we go deep into the heart of Viking Country. New Ulm, Minnesota. The small town sits about two hours southwest of the Twin Cities. Nothing but Purple People Eater fans live there.
"We've got some houses along the Main St. where they definitely advertise who they root for," resident Al Richter says. "They have Viking paraphernalia all over their house."
Richter works at the Kegel Klub in New Ulm. You'd expect it to be full of Viking helmets and horns, but it's not. Believe it or not, on Sundays it's full of Packers fans.
"Oh yea, very definitely," Richter says.
But where do they come from? It turns out New Ulm is the home of Martin Luther College, a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod college.
"A lot of them come in for the Packers games."
Vikings fans show up as well, but Richter says there's no tension between the two groups.
"The Packer-backers just come in to have a good time. Viking fans have to take it all in stride because, you gotta admit, Green Bay's a better team."
Amen to that.
