If they do play, it will at least make this game worth watching for three quarters. Reports are saying that both quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play today. Stafford was listed as doubtful with a shoulder injury while Johnson has been battling hand and knee injuries.
It was told to me that Stafford is on the field throwing and looks like he is ready to play. Talk about guts and talk about making this game worth fighting through that afternoon turkey induced drowsiness. The Packers should still win but suddenly the Lions have a fighting chance. Plus, doesn't this remind you of what Aaron Rodgers did last season? Remember when he was knocked out of the Tampa game, was listed as doubtful and still started the next week.
The Lions may be risking their future but at the same time, Stafford can really earn the respect of his teammates by suiting up. The biggest challenge a quarterback always has is getting his teammates to follow him. Yes, Stafford showed some guts by leading the Lions to a comeback victory on that bad shoulder but suiting up again is way to really the respect of the lockerroom. The issue is, and to quote Larry McCarren, there is a difference between playing injured and playing well while injured. We shall see how well Stafford plays in a little bit.
