Better Approach at the Plate

By Todd Welter

It is like watching a totally different team right now.  In the Crew's first two debacles of the NLDS, the offense swung away like they were double parked.  Tonight's approach has been one of patience.  Jamie Moyer is already at 76 pitches through three innings.  That is exactly what the Crew needed to do if it hopes to keep off elimination.  Even the strikeouts look better right now.  Granted a strikeout is never good but instead of going down on three or four pitches, Bill Hall and Prince Fielder have forced Moyer to throw at least six or more pitches.  Considering Moyer's pitches are no faster than beat up '87 Chevy Cavalier, this is the approach the Brewers had to take.  So far, so good.

Some other tidbits through three innings...

-This place is louder than a Boeing 747.  People can be mad that the roof was closed but it sure is helping.

-Got to love the creativity of the fans.  The scoreboard just showed a guy dressed up like Jesus.

-Dave Bush is pitching more efficient than a brand new Volkswagen.  As I write this, he is at 44 pitches, 32 for strikes.

-The Crew is still leaving way too many bodies on base this early.  Through three innings they have stranded four.  You can make a rock band out of that.

-Just when you think Corey Hart is going to do something great, he comes up with another bone head moment.  The first inning it was blowing a 2-0 count by striking out on the next three threw pitches he saw.  For an encore, he hits a bloop single to right only to round first too much that he is thrown out to end the inning.  He's lucky hunting season does not open up for another week or so because he still looks like a deer in headlights.
