There I said it. Let Brett Favre go. Release him, trade him for a second and fifth round pick to the Vikings, or better yet dump him off at the quarterback graveyard that is the Chicago Bears. Just end this madness! How much more can anyone take of this "As the Tractor Rolls" soap opera? Didn't Brett roll in just two days ago like a conquering hero? Wait, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have yet again bumbled a feel good story. Funny how the sources of Brett getting a shot to get his old job back happened to be on the day 56,000 people were packing into Lambeu Field. Interesting how the story quickly changes when the masses are not lining up at the front door. Suddenly, Brett becomes a distraction and it takes five hours of meetings to get back to where you started.
This is sad how three grow men that get paid like kings to either work for or play a kid's game are acting like a bunch of kids. Five hours of meetings to come to the decision that Thompson and McCarthy still do not want Brett in their tree fort anymore. Favre feels betrayed and McCarthy does not want the distraction. Brett is proving that his loyalty to the Green Bay fans is not enough to suck it up. That twelve million dollars is not enough to say the heck with what was said lets go win some football games. How is it a distraction if Favre is up for an open competition? How is having a training camp battle not good for the team? So I guess it must be terrible for the Pack to have an open competition for the safety positions, the weak-side linebacker spot, and who gets the majority of the carries at running back. If that is the case, expect 6-10 this year with so many positions up in the air.
What this clearly boils down to is Brett does not want to work for the Packers and the Packers clearly do not want him around. Since the open competition solution does not work and it seems the Pack would charge the Vikings the first born of everyone in the state of Minnesota, the only solution left is just let Brett go. I said such blasphemy but what else is left? The Packers paid Brett a lot of money over the years to the point where they actually do not owe him much. They do owe him some dignity and they do owe him the right to not deny his pursuit of happiness. He wants to be on the field and you are not interested in getting top return by trading him to the Vikings then what is the point of keeping him around? Release the man. Let the bidding wars begin. Instead, Thompson is being petty by holding out for either a team to have a major injury at quarterback or wait to a point to release Brett where he could not help a team until week 4.
This has got to stop. The Packers have claimed to have moved on and believes in Aaron Rodgers. They have tried to bribe Brett to stay away and attempted trade him to Broadway or Heaven's waiting room. None of it worked the way the Pack wanted. The Pack do not want the distraction so then just get rid of it. Brett wants to play and if you do not want him on this team and you do not want top dollar in return for him then you must release him (have I made my point clear?). At last check, the fans will still show up. People showed up after Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls parted ways. Tickets were still selling in San Francisco when Joe Montana left town. If the Pack truly have moved on, the only thing left to do is do what's right. Unless, you truly think there is possibility Rodgers might fail, so you want to keep Brett around just in case. The more and more the Packers play this poker game, the more and more that seems like a possibility they are thinking that way. If that is the case, then you might as well put up with the distraction.
