Instead of paying attention to the Brewers and Cubs division race, everyone really should pay attention to the race for attention between Favre and the Brewers. These two entities have dominated the headlines since Brett got mad that Ted Thompson was no longer going to be a hostage of Brett's indecision. Every day that Ted Thompson allows the divorce proceedings to continue means more and more victims.
Victim #1: The Brewers
Right now the Brewers should be dominating the hearts and minds of every fan in this state. Five years ago that was unheard of. Around this time in say 2004, the focus clearly was on Packers training camp. Now, the Brewers are a legit contender and Miller Park is selling out almost every night. The Crew is playing exciting baseball and lighting up talk show lines. Yet, they have to share the main event with Favre. The Brewers are sort of the under-card to the Thompson vs. Favre steel cage match. Its a shame because fans should be able to enjoy the Brewers without having to worry about the 3,000lb elephant in the room that the Favre soap opera has become.
Victim #2: Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers really should do the smart thing and that is call a peace meeting between Brett and chief legacy protector Ted Thompson. It would be in the best interest of his career. That is right, Aaron Rodgers is probably the last person on Earth that needs Brett traded away. Not because Rodgers can not step out from his shadow. Instead, it is the amount of pressure Ted Thompson has put on Rodgers with the legacy protector's decision to go with the unknown over a legend. Every Packer fan will well be within their rights to boo every incomplete pass, question every loss Rodgers has, and say they would have been better off with Brett after Rodgers throws an INT. Ted Thompson has made it clear he believes Aaron Rodgers gives the Pack the best chance to win. Rodgers has to prove why Thompson has so much faith in him that the legacy protector would chase off a living legend. Rodgers better prove that he is better than a three-time MVP, Super Bowl winning quarterback who happened to be a big part of why a good team played like a great team last season. You think Rodgers will be able to handle that kind of pressure? If he can, then he is the next Steve Young (only Rodgers will not be left handed), or he has one really good shrink to help him deal with all those issues that the pressure will bring.
Victim #3: The Milwaukee Bucks
In case you missed it, the Bucks are actually doing stuff in the offseason to become a playoff team. Turns out Richard Jefferson has no problem with Milwaukee. Andrew Bogut is committed to having a career for the long haul in this city. The day Bogut got paid was also the day Brett broke his silence. Mo Williams and Michael Redd still remain on the team so until one of them gets moved, the Bucks will stay a back story to a reports like Brett Favre switched dentists.
Victim #4: Ted Thompson's dog
Packers fans have been known to be ruthless. Just ask Dan Devine's dog. Thompson might want to take extra precautions to make sure history does not repeat itself.
Victim #5: Brett Favre's legacy
While Ted Thompson is doing everything he can to protect Brett's legacy, Brett's mouth has done a good job of putting some dents into it. The man once revered for being the ultimate competitor has basically become an upset child complaining that he did not get the toy he wanted at the store. Brett is doing a better job this week of regaining some of his luster back. If he is telling the truth, he did come to his senses and at least agree to compete for the starting job (which he probably would have won today). Thompson in no uncertain terms told Brett to go away. It will still take some time for people to forget Brett's waffling but if Rodgers flops, nobody will forget Thompson telling Brett that he agrees to disagree on Favre being on the team.
