Michael Redd, White, and Blue

By Todd Welter

Say what you want about Michael Redd, but he deserved the invite to the Olympics.  There are many Bucks fans that hopes Redd takes his inability to play defense and goes to any other NBA city.  You got to be proud that Redd is still in Bucks jersey after this decision.  At least for today.  Tomorrow, you can go back to the calls for wanting him traded.

Redd possesses all the traits every American would want representing them in Beijing.  Humble, gracious, and genuinely a good guy.  He can shoot the ball which is something Team USA has not had since the original Dream Team.  What is even better about this selection is shooting is all Team USA is counting on him to do.  We finally get to see how Redd's sharpshooting ability can contribute to a winner.  Team USA has got enough defense to be able to live with Redd's inability to guard even the beer vendor.  He will be free to be Michael Redd on this team and that means knocking down three's and spacing out the floor to allow others to drive.  Granted, John Hammond will not be able to build a full roster of All-Stars like Team USA, but seeing Redd on the team could give him an idea of how Redd could still fit into the Bucks picture.

I see this Team USA roster and I can not help but think the Gold Medal is coming back to the country that created the game.  Kobe's defense, LeBron James's talent, Chris Paul's play making ability, and plenty of the right role players.  Will the egos be able to come together is unknown but on paper, Team USA is about as scary as it was since the original Dream Team.  Redd's shooting is going to be a big part of being a nightmare to the rest of the world.  When was the last time that was said about Redd when it came to winning?  While I'm at, when was the last time winning and Redd were mentioned in the same sentence?
