Initial Thoughts

By Lisa Heinze

If ever there was a picture post card that captures the essence of Green Bay Packers football, it was the scene in the snow at Lambeau Field last Saturday night.  I have never heard a louder crowd.

Never been more impressed with the Packers in any single game, especially in the way that game unfolded.

Initial thoughts on Giants-Packers NFC Championship meeting.  The game in week two is relatively irrelevant to this contest.  Both teams have improved dramatically since that early season contest.  Both teams have an identity forged since that weekend.  The Giants have become the ultimate road warriors.  The Packers have found a ground game.  The greatest story line is Ryan Grant, whom the Packers plucked off the scrap heap of the Giants for a sixth round draft pick on cut down day at the end of pre season.  You can bet the New York papers will be ripping into that one!  On the Defensive side of the ball, the Giants defensive end combination of Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora is the best pass rushing duo in the NFC .  However, that plays into the strength of the Packers offensive line, namely the pass blocking prowess of tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher.

Finally, at this stage of the season all four remaining playoff teams feel like they are destiny's darlings.  Yes at this point everyone from New England through the Giants believes it is their year.  In the end it will be just one team's year, but for now all four remaining teams are riding a wave that feels to them like destiny.
