You just met the Greatest Quarterback in Packers History...By John JaglerGene was right when he said it sounds like a pefect script for a commercial for the Packers Hall of Fame. The boy and I had a "men only" weekend. We did the Milwaukee Holiday Parade early Saturday, then headed up to Green Bay. After checking into the hotel, we headed over to Lambeau. As we were walking around the beautiful atrium and taking it all in, an elevator opens and there stands Bart Starr. I've met him several times and introduced myself. He was with his wife and several other couples. I asked him if he could pose for a picture and he said he did if it wouldn't; take too long because he and his group were headed out to dinner. In 3 seconds...the time for a handshake, a picture and a "best of luck to you son", a memory was made..
I said "thank you Mr. Starr" and with that, people overheard his name and quickly ran over.... but he was gone. That left my son in the middle of all the attention. A couple of people told him how amazing it was that he just met Bart Starr. One leaned over and said "you just met the greatest quarterback in Packers history". After the dust settled and the crowd cleared John leaned over and whispered "who's Bart Starr?". I put my arm around him and said "son, let's take a walk". With that we walked into the Packers Hall of Fame. Cue the music, shot from behind of us walking into the Packers Hall of Fame... and you got yourself a commercial. |

I ended up standing right next to Bart at the Dallas game. I went down to the 400 section to get a Guinness at halftime, popped back up to my section to watch the second half kickoff, turned around and went "Holy crap, it's Bart Starr." Pretty cool for you and your son.

Great story. Same thing happened to me when I was a kid, and met Al Maguire at the airport with my dad. Had no idea who he was, but it was cool!

What a great story, this is not the first time you have given your listeners a "tear in their eye" you must be one special dad. Happy Thanksgiving.

John, You are a real dad! Despite the fact your son didn't know who Bart Starr was at the time, there will come a day when he will thank you for this experience, and the picture to remind him of it. He'll have a lot of jealous friends!

John, VERY NICE!!! You should frame that pic and maybe the next time you see Mr. Starr he'll autograph it. It's nice to see that you took the pic of Mr Starr with your son and NOT of yourself. You put your son 1st & that's GREAT!!!

What a memory for you and him. You probably did more this weekend for creating a life long Packer fan, then his 8 years of listening to you yell at the TV each Sunday! He will be telling his friends who he met, and explaining to all his friends who Bart Star is. And one last note, He needs a haircut!
