UPDATE: The latest on Adrian Peterson's Helmet-less Head...

By John Jagler

UPDATE: EVEN THE NFL SAYS HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN FLAGGED:

NFL vice president of officiating Mike Pereira CONFIRMED what we discussed Monday: "I can't figure out why anything wasn't done about that, but I will say this: It frustrates me that we didn't do anything about that," Pereira said today on SIRIUS NFL Radio. "You can't take your helmet off either to argue a call or to celebrate." When you score like that, when you remove your helmet, you should be flagged," Pereira said. "Or when you take off your helmet to argue with the officials, you should be flagged, too, and it frustrates me, quite frankly, that we didn't do that."

Okay, first of all, the thing on his head looks frighteningly like a condom.  Having said that, according to league rules, we never should have seen it Sunday.  As we surmised Monday on MN, Vikings running-back Adrian Peterson should have been penalized for removing his helmet.

condom headHere's how the rule reads:  per Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(h), the removal of a helmet during or after the play except when in the bench area constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct.

Had he been hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty, the Bikes would have had to kickoff from the 15 and Mason Crosby's field goal attempt for the win would have undoubtedly been shorter than 52 yards.

If you think you saw that condom-head too much, you're right.  Peterson actually could have been called for this four times during the game.

Sour grapes?  Of course.  But really, with all the questionable calls in that game, you can't blame me for complaining a bit.
