Welcome to what may become a regular feature of this blog between now and November. I call it "The Left Unhinged - Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest".
I appreciate that reasonable people can disagree on issues. As I often say, life would be boring if we always agreed about everything.
That said, even smart or successful people can say some really stupid things during an election season. In particular, the "crash and burn" scenario that the Obama campaign now finds itself in has really caused some people to become unhinged.
With that in mind, here are the today's "Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest"!
The "Dumb" award for today goes to Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert. Frankly, I've enjoyed Ebert's work over the years but perhaps he should stick to what he knows.
In a blog posting yesterday (since removed from his web site), Ebert described Sarah Palin as "a shallow, chirpy person with ... vaguely alarming eyeglasses." Ebert wrote that he didn't understand "how you can be her age and never have gone to Europe" and opined that her "travel record is that of a hopeless provincial".

You can almost imagine Ebert spitting out his Brie as he watches Palin's poll numbers go through the roof. Hey Roger, perhaps the reason she doesn't travel to Cannes every year like you do is that she's busy raising a family and making a difference in her community (as opposed to writing about movies that other people make). I also doubt that she gets to travel on somebody else's dime like you do.
As for Ebert's slam on Palin's glasses? Well, I'm not sure that a guy who wrote the screenplay for "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" should be lecturing anybody about taste.
The "Dumber" award for today goes to the Chairperson of the South Carolina Democratic Party Carol Fowler.
In remarks yesterday, Fowler opined that Sarah Palin's principal qualification to be Vice-President was that she "hadn't had an abortion". Fowler has now apoligized saying that she was "clumsily" making a point about single-issue voters in South Carolina. You have to wonder whether she has the same disdain for those voters who toe the "Planned Parenthood - Abortion anytime, anywhere and for anybody" line?
Today's "Dumbest" award goes, hands down, to Hollywood actor Matt Damon.
In a rambling Associated Press video, Damon whines about how he "doesn't know anything about Sarah Palin" and probably won't learn anything about her over the next eight weeks. Way to stay stupid, Matt.
What's worse though is that Damon goes on to recycle internet hoaxes about Palin including made up quotations about dinosaurs. Damon is also scared that a self-described "Hockey Mom" could have access to nuclear codes.
I actually think it's scarier that anyone would consider voting based on the recommendation of the guy who made "Stuck on You".
