Meet 22-year-old Tywalla Johnson.

     Last February, Johnson went out drinking with friends at a couple of bars in Madison.  Around 1:30 a.m. on February 15th, she picked up her four-month-old son from the baby's grandmother (presumably the father's mother).  The grandmother told police that Johnson seemed drunk when she picked up the baby (but nevertheless gave Johnson the child!).

     Johnson then drove to her mother's house and proceeded to pass out  while parked in the driveway.  The car was running and the heat was on high.  When Johnson came to about 5:30 a.m., she noticed that the baby was unconscious and having trouble breathing.

     The child was immediately taken to the hospital but died later in the day.  The cause of death is believed to be post-cardiac arrest caused by the heat in the car.  According to medical officials, babies have difficulty regulating their body temperature.  The wind chill that morning was as low as -17.

     Johnson has now been charged with child neglect leading to death.  If convicted, she faces up to 25 years in prison.  Later today, we'll discuss whether or not you believe that she committed a crime and/or merits prosecution.
