The question that I've been asked the most frequently over the past week is: "What in the world is going on in Sheboygan"? My only explanation is temporary insanity!
Last week, Sheboygan County Circuit Judge James Bolgert sentenced Gregorio Dionicio Dedios to eight months in jail; (with five months credit for time served). The 28 year old Dedios, an illegal alien, had impregnated his 15 year old girlfriend. He was looking at a maximum of 25 years in jail.
Let's see - you enter the country illegally, impregnate a child and get 8 months in jail. Only in Sheboygan. At least, hopefully this only happens in Sheboygan.
Unfortunately, the Dedios sentencing was not the most outrageous sentence to come out of Judge Bolgert's court last week.
For over ten months, David Goesch and his brother Tom tormented a woman named Mary Jane Daniels beyond the level of human endurance. During this period of time, they sent Daniels letters containing explicit degrading remarks and threats that she and her family would be killed. They also sent similar types of letters to clients of Daniels ( a real estate broker). As if all this wasn't enough, they also sent bizarre letters under Daniels' signature to third parties in the community.
To say the least, these two guys are major league creeps! At sentencing, Ms. Daniels asked Judge Bolgert to impose the maximum sentence of 12 years. The District Attorney recommended a seven year sentence. Bolgert however choose to give one brother only 18 months in prison while putting the other brother on straight probation.
Wow.
I don't know what's going on in Sheboygan. I do know though that if you want to stalk women or rape children, at least one Judge appears to be sending the message that Sheboygan is your kind of town! The Chamber of Commerce must be so proud.
Judge Bolgert was elected without opposition in 2006. Presumably this won't be the case should he choose to run again in 2012. In the meantime, absent an unlikely recall effort, there's really not a lot the law-abiding residents of Sheboygan can do.
Except perhaps move to Ozaukee County.
