Apology

By James T Harris

Logo_620wtmj On Sunday’s edition of the National Conversation I discussed a story about a family of four that was injured on a Water Park slide because their combined weight was between 850 and 900 pounds - much heavier than the posted limit for a single raft.

While telling the story I laughed (quite hardily) because in that moment, it was funny. I heard from a few listeners to the program that were shocked and disappointed with my outburst.

My bad.

In other words I apologize to those whom I offended by my action. It doesn’t matter that the family was overweight, knew they were “over the weight” but chose to break the rules and ride the slide anyway.  Family members were injured and that was not a laughing matter. The water park didn’t find it funny either because the family has lawyered up and are going to sue the park for negligence. It was apparently the parks fault for not eyeing the family up and telling them what they already knew; that they were too fat for the water slide ride.

May bad again. I neglected to mention that in my telling of the story.

Never the less, I should know better. Whether the person is obese, a dwarf or unusually tall, bodily harm is no laughing matter. It really isn’t and for that, I again apologize for my offensive behavior.

I also promise to apologize when it happens again.

(O.K. Mom... Can I go now?)
