took these pictures of Berlin in November 1968 on the same Saturday night

Pic 1:  I’m standing on a platform on the FREE side of the Berlin Wall looking into the flood-lit barb wired and guarded no man’s land.  The buildings in the background are in East (Communist) Berlin.

Pic 2In East Berlin the main boulevard “Unter den Linden” shows little traffic.  This is Berlin’s main street and leads to the Brandenberg Gate the center focal point of life in Berlin except for the wall years.  The line that separated east and west went right through the Brandenberg Gate.
