The Dossier On DoucetteBy Gene Mueller
Milwaukee Bucks radio play by plan man Ted Davis does his 1,000th game tonight in New York. It's his 12th season here, and he is a local treasure. I don't say that just because I share time with him on the team's flagship station. His calls are enthusiastic, energetic and most of all--honest. Ted Davis calls it as he sees it, and doesn't sugarcoat what's happening on the floor. Plus, he's funny. And, he's had to call a lot of sorry games as the franchise tried to, how shall we say it politely, find it's way? Try making a bad contest entertaining to the folks at home--it's the ultimate challenge for any announcer. Ted pulls it off.
Before Ted, and Howard David, and Jim Irwin, came the team's first announcer, Eddie Doucette. I adored him as a kid and wanted to be Eddie Doucette when I grew up. Here's all you ever need to know about the first Voice of The Bucks, as told by the man himself. |

Great story. I attended more that a few games in those days and still am a fan. I remember when his son became ill. I think it was luekemia. Does anyone know how he is doing?

Great childhood memories of Eddie and Johnny Mac. The Bucks have had, and still have, some of the best announcing talent in the country. For a market this small we are very fortunate to have such quality. Ted Davis is an artist on the air.
