Anyone been to Mayfield lately? If so, did you see the Cleavers?
I didn't think so.
Mayfield didn't exist--the fictional home of Ward, June, Wally and Theodore was the creation of Hollywood writers trying to give prime time America a family it could relate to. And, try as we did, we couldn't, not even after four decades of reruns. Few moms wore pearls in the kitchen. Scarce is the household where dad reads the paper in a suit and tie. And, even more rare is the household where problems--however minor--can be solved in 30 minutes, minus the commercials.
Enter Sarah Palin.

She has family issues. Several came to light in the few days since John McCain made her his Republican running mate. You can bet your house there's a legion of bloggers, P-I's and political operatives trying to find out more, some in hopes of torpedoing her chances of staying on the ticket. If someone lands the money shot on her, it will then bring into play McCain's vetting skills and thus, his judgment.
So far, I'm not impressed by what's been disclosed. In fact, I tend to agree with this take from Politico.com The disclosures so far are pretty much what a lot of us are coping with in our lives, or among those with whom we associate. These aren't deal-breakers, except maybe to the self-righteous few who hold others to standards they themselves would be hard-pressed to meet.
And, a tip of the hat to Barack Obama for taking a pass on the daughter story. High ground taken, a rarity in politics these days.
