Position: News Anchor on TheGreen House Residence:Wauwatosa Personal File: Married to Sandy, Cairn Terrier "Gabby" Joined WTMJ: 1995 Did You Know: Phil is an avid cyclist. Since taking up the sport in 2001 he has ridden over 22,000 miles, including competing in several area races.
Phil is a homegrown radio guy, discussing the news with plenty of humor on TheGreen House show every afternoon. Born and raised in
West Allis and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he pursued radio because he was "bad in math" and at the time wanted to be the next Bob Uecker.
Radio is the only career Phil has ever had, dating back to when he first went on the air in
Milwaukee on WUWM FM90 back in the fall of 1978. After graduating from UWM in 1982, Phil landed a paying gig in
Oklahoma City at WKY where he was part of a morning show. Two years later, he was back on the
Milwaukee airwaves doing morning shows at WISN and later at what was WEZW at the time.
Each year, Phil compiles his favorite moments from TheGreen House show, puts them together on a CD called "Green House Nuggets" and sells them at Christmas-time to raise money for Columbia-St. Mary's Hospice in
Milwaukee . "It's an honor to have people invite you into their lives as part of their afternoon routine. I just like to make people smile...give 'em a laugh for some stupid reason in an otherwise serious world. The greatest compliment I ever received came a few years ago while on remote selling my Nuggets CD. A gentleman quietly approached to buy a CD and whispered to me, 'My wife died a couple of months ago and you're the only one that can still make me laugh.' I'll never forget the day he told me that…it’s the reason I do what I do."
