Let's Face It: The Super Bowl Ads Stunk this Year

By Dan O'Donnell

I pride myself in being a television connosieur.  Not a snob, mind you, a connosieur.  I have Jersey Shore on my DVR alongside Mad Men.  But I do know good TV, and last night's commercials were not good TV.  Most Super Bowl commercials are generally over-hyped and underwhelming, but this year's crop in particular yielded precious few memorable moments.  There were, however, two notable exceptions:

And this one didn't even air during the game!

  1. I don't think we saw the same show. I was impressed with this crop of ads.
  2. No way, t-rex. The commercials were terrible this year! None of them were funny except the auto-tune one and the Doritos one where the kid says get yo hands off my mama.
  3. I agree. This year was a huge disappointment compared to commercials from previous years. Also a few of the Doritos commercials seemed to get a good laugh out of me.
  4. I counted 6 Bud Light commercials and 4 Dorito's commercials. All horrible. And that Favre commercial was the worst of them all. They didn't have to put too much make up on him to make his hair as gray as it was. He already appears that way... Sad that the season is officially done however.
  5. I laughed at the Doritos Coffin and Doritos ninja. Otherwise they, like always, have seem to be steadily declining. Why waste the money?
  6. The least unique opinion in the word is to criticize the given year's super bowl ads. Every year this same article is written. I found this year's ads good, but of course it is easier to write the negative blog.
  7. i think we were watching different games. the VW ad with stevie wonder "seeing" the VW was awesome. the betty white/abe vigoda commercial got lots of laughs, and the kid slapping the guy stealing his doritos was good. the only good part of the mcdonalds commercial was larry bird at the end.
  8. I thought the ads were prett good, but that half-time show was a disaster. As one who saw the Who in 1982, even I think it is time to appeal to a different demographic. Wouldn't the Black Eye Peas have been fun?
