Could This be "The Year Without a Summer?"

AccuWeather thinks it very well could be.

 

According to Long Range Expert Joe Bastardi, areas from the northern Plains into the Northeast will have a "year without a summer." The jet stream, which is suppressed abnormally south this spring, is also suppressing the number of thunderstorms that can form. The ones that do form in areas of the Ohio Valley and West are forming in places with very cold temperatures, which can lead to more electrified thunderstorms than normal this year.

 

Great. "A year without a summer" or, as we call it here in Southeast Wisconsin, "a year."  But does this mean we need to burn more fossil fuels to get the earth's temperature back up?  Good thing America just bought a car company....

    Good thing America just bought a car company? Nah. They're gonna be building all the economy friendly hippie machines. Hummer is going away. Pontiac is already gone. I'm looking forward to the 2012 Pelosi Sport Edition in the video Charlie Sykes posted earlier. It's what we really need to help combat these scorching global warming temperatures! I mean...for God's sake, it's 54 degrees outside! Could you even imagine what it was like 100 years ago? -40 or -50 for the HIGH easily!

    There you go Joe, making those expert predicts without consulting your text book or consulting climatology. The year of no summer in 1816 was significant. Our current slow entry into the spring/summer warm conditions is more a result of the unusual winter and the greater snow fields created. The jet is a bit south but warming in the poleward areas, at 500mb (approx 18,000 ft up) has been 15-20 degrees and the jet will reposition over the next month. Texas Meteorologist.

    I'm surprised to hear so much discussion about it being a year without a summer. It doesn't compare remotely to the true year without a summer, 1816.
