MONDAY HOT VIEW: ECO POLICE?

By Charlie Sykes

Ummmm, did this really sell Audis? I was with them until the very end.....And somehow can't imagine that eco-activists were really happy with this portrayal of their dystopian fantasy.

I guess I am “compulsive” about recycling my yard waste in my compost bin because I get some great dirt for my garden and flower beds, I even like getting cash for my aluminum and steel cans but it’s the other stuff that I don’t like; forcing us to bring mercury filled florescent bulbs into my home, mandating that we turn food into gasoline for our cars (10%, or more, Ethanol). There are REASONABLE recyclers and than there are the Eco Nazis. Most liberals fall into the latter.

It was an effective commercial. Look at all of you pouting about it! And I bet 90% of you are compulsive about recycling.

Now I know the commercial is going over like a lead balloon - but I liked it and this is why: Clean Diesel is just like clean coal - using a traditional fossil fuel with a little extra refining, in order to help it burn cleaner... It isn't BioDiesel, or some other reformulation of fuel made from food, and so the irony of the commercial is the green police allowing ANY fossil fuel burning vehicle.

I guess that’s the same reason I hated that commercial; overbearing bureaucrats telling us how to live our lives naturally repels Americans. I get the satire of the commercial but is still sends chill up your spin with the realization at how close we are to that very point in time, just look at California and all their silly rules and laws. The Demolition Man movie is s a good watch to see what could be in our future if we aren’t careful. They even predicted that Swartzeneger would be Governor.

Yeah, I thought at the end Audi was going to show some 5 mpg gas-hog of a SUV or something to tell the Eco-Nazis to go to Heck. Too bad they didn't.

As a proud Audi owner I think Audi is guilty of trying to have it both ways in this commercial. On the one hand, they do rip on the Eco Fascists in the commercial via the Green Police. At the same time, though, they are trying to point out how wonderful and environmentally correct their product is, which sort of negates their mocking of the Eco Fascists.

Liberals watched that and thought it was their game plan; don't mind the car - but what a stupid commercial. Totally, utterly tone deaf.

A road block, home search without a warrant, and spying inside someone's house? There is nothing amusing about this commercial at all (except maybe the mutant aardvark). It's just plain creepy mainly because there are actually people who would like to see this type of stuff happen.

Puzzled at why Audi would run such satire? Maybe it has to do with California's arcane and corrupt CARB system (Green Police) that effectively outlaws even high efficiency diesel cars. The California Air Resources Board is so caught up in its own bureaucracy that they won't consider this technology even though it is commonplace in Europe.

I loved this ad. It was my favorite of the day. I think you have to love an ad that makes fun of the Eco-Nazi movement, while selling a supposedly Eco-Friendly car. I might buy a green car someday, but it won't be because it will make some Eco Nazis happy ... I refuse to even consider a Prius simply because it has been shoved down my throat that its the socially conscious thing to do. This Car has my attention now ... because I could buy it, and still laugh at the idiocy of the Eco-Nuts!

A plastic bag found at the grocery store is made from polythylene, a man-made polymer that microorganisms don't recognize as food. Do you really want all of this plastic stuff in the landfills? However, there was article I was reading in the UK Registar. The UK attached serial numbers to all incandescent bulbs so they could track the purchases made with credit cards. The same system has been implemented in the US as well. Pay cash for those incadescents!

You just may have nailed it. Audi may have just wanted to appease the Pelosi; I mean the Obama, White House now that they own their own auto company with the power of the US economy behind them. Audi may not have wanted the same hassle that this administration is giving Toyota. Since Audi is such a smaller market than Toyota they probably thought that kissing Obama’s ring would keep him off their backs.

The ad would have been great if they'd followed the very entertaining setup where it wanted to go; if you start out mocking the madness, the consistent message is to resist it. Instead they told us how to save ourselves by keeping our heads down and appeasing the green-shirts. What could have been really funny ended up just creepy. From a German company, yet!

Did anybody notice that a Black Chicken was missing from the Denny's ad when they go to the White House? And now we learned that men are to go around just wearing their underwear and no pants from the Super Bowl ads. And yes, this Green ad just shows that the Progress of the Country will come to a stand still with this police.

As I watched this commercial the first thing I said to myself was “there is no friggin way I want anything to do with what these people are selling.”. I think Audi made a big mistake with this add, what were they thinking? The Global warming Nazis have been debunked and Americans are tired of these people telling us what kind of movie theater popcorn oil to use. Dreadful commercial.

The commercial was a hoot, but the actual sales pitch was totally incongruous. It could have been a very funny ad for something like a Hummer. There are signs the pendulum is swinging back a bit from eco-lunacy, but I guess no one's THAT brave yet.

Ouch, I bet the eco-warriors cringe at this. Not because they would disapprove, but because it is all too real and something they support. They already have a squad of enforcement agents making sure people in the San Francisco area do not use their wood-burning fireplaces on days when air pollution is exepcted to be high. They literally sniff their way around town looking for signs of violators.
