A VERY SHORT HONEYMOONBy Charlie SykesThis is the way Washington works these days. Less than a week after the One singles out Paul Ryan for praise, his party's attack machine is in full-throated attack.
Last Friday, Rep. Paul Ryan looked like President Barack Obama’s new Republican best friend. The president showered praise on everything from his substantive budget proposal to his family during the now-legendary question-and-answer session with House Republicans. But rather than opening a hopeful new avenue for bipartisanship, the White House and Hill Democrats quickly went to work ripping apart Ryan’s “Roadmap for America’s Future” — which Obama himself said he had read. Democrats accused the Wisconsin Republican of trying to privatize Social Security, cut taxes for the rich and increase them for the middle class. Medicare would be allowed to “wither on the vine.” Here we go again, Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) said Thursday of Ryan’s proposal. On Capitol Hill, Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag deconstructed the plan, saying it would address long-term fiscal problems but in a way that many policymakers might find “objectionable” because it would shift risks and costs onto individuals and their families. In just a week, Ryan had gone from being seen as the smart conservative whom Obama might take seriously to being seen as the symbol of how Democrats believe Republicans would dismantle the social safety net if the GOP took control of Congress. Republicans believe the criticism was a setup....

@Bill - sorry, I was working so didn't get to see Obama "whip" the Repubs - I thought BHO's point was we should all work together, so why would he want to whip them anyway...?? All the quotes I heard from the meeting were of BHO blaming everything on Bush, etc. So what else is new?

Bildo, a governor is the leader of the state. A senator is a legislator for the state in the Senate of Congress. Huge difference. Also, I stand behind what I said, look it up, Barack barely showed up in person to vote. At least Sarah was on watch for her state, the whole time. BTW, I believe that Alaska has some pretty good strategic resources, a strategic border with a very powerful and distinctly different neighbor, and the massive area of being the largest state in the Union - how's that?

Bill, put simply.....Sarah Palin is way more qualified than O-Bomba. He has never run a friggin lemonade stand much less any form of government. If she wasn't the dems/libs wouldn't be wasting their time trying to destroy her and her family.

Hank I am sorry I forgot that Fox cut away from Obama's meeting at the Republican retreat in Baltimore so you wouldn't have seen it. fmff "long term governor/leader"? Who the hell are you talking about?

Anyone notice how O-Bomba is starting to sound like a robot. Every speech......no as a matter of fact every time he opens his mouth his tone is the same. If you don't pay attention its like he is saying the same thing (word for word) over and over. He actually is saying the same thing over and over but uses different words each time thinking we aren't going to catch on.

When did Obama whip the Republicans? - The Dems have been getting whipped pretty good in recent elections. Palin may not be super-smart like Obama (ha ha), but she has good common sense, unlike Obama, who can't say anything intelligent if the teleprompter isn't working (and even then he's wrong).

Yes Bill, I for one believe the fact that a long term governor/leader of a strategic US state to be absolutely more qualified to be POTUS than a 1 term no-show senator/legislator from a sleaze pit of corruption like the State of Illinois, who's main claim to fame is crapping in their own drinking water and telling people that it's good for them and that is why they have to pay for it....dumass

Hank give me a friggin break! This is a person that you folks claim is qualified to be POTUS and she has to write notes on her hand like a 3rd grader cheating on a test and then you could see her reading them during the softball Q&A. As far as the teleprompter crap goes who gives a damn if the guy uses a teleprompter. He sure didn't need one when he whipped the Republicans a couple of weeks ago.

@Bill - Palin doesn't need a teleprompter to talk to six-graders (like our super-intelligent Prez who can't pronounce "corpse-man"). So she writes a few little notes on her hand - so what?

Paul Ryan must be scaring Dems to death. After all, they send out the attack dogs when they feel really threatened and have no answers except for personal attacks. Look at what they did to Sarah Palin - and they are still at it! Nasty. Too bad that more of us are on to this childish strategy and have actually come to expect it. Their whining, name-calling, and sleaze tactics are getting boring and ineffective. Dems - we are on to you! And we'll show you what we mean in November!

In other words, the same old liberal lies they've used for years. They even used them against McCain. And then they accuse Republicans of scaring people about Obamacare? Lets see, we have a 2000 page health care bill that effectively takes over 16% of the U.S. economy, nobody reads the bill, bribes and payoffs are made to get votes and the people are being unfairly frightened?

cont. This is the philosophical debate a shared vision or rugged individualism. Left unsaid by Ryan is whether, for instance seniors will be able to afford the cost shift or on they other hand will the Medical industry slash costs to reflect a new reality. Dr's. in the future may make 25-30% of what they currently make. Again, Ryan's plan is bold and would entirely remake our investment and medical landscape. Pleas read the "Roadmap" its important.

Democrats accused the Wisconsin Republican, of privatizing SS they could add turning Medicare and Medicaid into voucher programs. Read Ryans Roadmap, he clearly lays out an audacious vision. He holds steady gov't cost and shifts the liabilities to individuals. For instance a senior needs a bypass and your $5,500 voucher ins. will only cover $4,000 then you and your estate will receive a bill of around $70,000. Or in the future a bypass will cost significantly less as will all other procedures.

The Left in this country has no moral core and will say anything (and do almost anything) to centralize power to them. Praise from Comrade Obama should always be met with trepidation.

An example would be three days after Napolitano leftys were quiet on her statement that, "the system worked". Then they got their talking points and blogs started popping up that she was misunderstood. paragraphs had to be written to explain why everyone with a brain simply misunderstood her.

I see this in the blogosphere all the time. When something contradictory to a lefty blogger comes out, like climategate, abstinence only sex education works, pro life = pro abortion not choice, etc. There is always a few day wait until they get their talking points handed down to them, then they start their rebuttals.
