A SURGELET?

By Charlie Sykes

Does that make Obama, Bush Lite????

George Will doesn't think The One's Afghanistan policy will end well.

Obama has not made a convincing case for his tentative surgelet.

George Orwell said the quickest way to end a war is to lose it. But Obama's half-hearted embrace of a half-baked nonstrategy -- briefly feinting toward the Taliban (or al-Qaeda, or a "syndicate of terror") while lunging for the exit ramp -- makes a protracted loss probable.

I can see Obama now, puffing on a cig just outside the White House, thinking, "Whew, I just solved that Afghanistan thing, and now I've solved the Jobs thing today. This job is so stressful. Michelle's been cranky lately because I've been ignoring her. Time to take her to New Zealand, or somewhere. Hope Pelosi can work out the Health Care thing while I'm gone. Memo to self: when's my next prime-time speech?"

It's disgusting that a leader would send troops into harms way without the full force necessary to overwhelm the enemy. Sending anything less is just endangering more brave men and women.

I think our real war is with the politicians. And they soooooo desperately need to be beaten down with extreme prejudice.

Its as if Obama has found a "strategy" to enlist the support of both Republicans and Democrats, but ultimately not a strategy for success. Its the exact opposite of when Bush implemented the Iraq surge strategy. It was a strategy for success and it did unequivacably work, but was not greeted with any sort of broad based political support.

As usual when one tries to please everyone they end up pleasing no one. That is what happened to Obama here. He tried to please the left by sending fewer troops in and tried to please centrists (note not the right) by sending some troops in. In the end it won't be enough troops to finish the job so really Obama has just put more troops in harms way needlessly. Either sending in the 40,000 - 60,000 requested or bringing them all home would have been wiser decisions.
