Mary Katherine Hamm calls this the "creepy statist quote of the day," but it also a compact statement of the governing philosophy of the ruling clique in Washington these days.
Nancy Pelosi:
In a recent press release, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., argues that constitutional objections to the individual mandate are "nonsensical," because "the power of Congress to regulate health care is essentially unlimited."
Every member of congress who votes for Obamacare is essentially endorsing Pelosi's position.

She dismissed the thousands of people with a wave of her hand and called them astro-truff.Did this tell you how little respect she had for the american people. No one censured her. Does anyone in our government gives a rats butt about us. She also said, they would get this healthcare whether we wanted it or not. Its time to put these people in their place, "back in their home town".

Sources do say that Marie Antoinette really didn't make the "cake" quote. However, one of her real nicknames was . . . wait for it . . . "Madame Deficit!!" Oh the irony!! What a perfect moniker for Nanny Nancy, since she is "Madame" Speaker.

Yes, and our modern day Marie Antionette is one of the architects of the 'debt' we are in, being bold enough now to tell us exactly what we should think, and need. And when we want something else, because this means something as strong to us as having our bread, affordably, and not told how much we can or can't have, and not waiting in line all day at the government run bakery to find that they ran out of today's ration of bread. And how arrogantly she looks down from her balcony to say this!!

I'll help out the ignorant out there - "Let them eat cake!" is supposedly what Marie Antoinette said about the peasants in France who were revolting due to, in part, the expensive cost of bread. (Antoinette was later beheaded during the French Revolution.) The high cost of bread in France was part of the extreme inflation in the country caused by King Louis's debts. See any parallels?

It is funny, yes, but horrible at the same time how DWIGHT's "And Let Them Eat Cake" is so scarily true. ONE: the power she was given. TWO: the power she is assuming and taking. THREE: the absolute contempt she has in regards to the Right side of the aisle. FOUR: her condescending and belittling and complete UNCARING for the people. All show me exactly the same as "let them eat cake".

What if someone is unemployed, for example? - I'm sure there's 200 pages in the bill covering that situation, but, Jim, your point is well-taken. What would the Federal Government do in the face of massive Civil Disobedience? I would hope we haven't become such a nation of sheep to quietly acquiesce to such an Un-Constitutional requirement to purchase Health Care (according to Government mandates) under penalty of law. Think about what the Pelosi/Reid/Obama bils are proposing, People!!

Jim - The 10th Amendment is dead, has been for years. I mean can anyone give me one meaningful example of a the federal government being limited because something wasn't an enumerated power?

At first blush I find myself somewhat agreeing with lil eddie. Then I remember that since the New Deal I don't think that we've ever really had a case that tested the Congress' limits under the 10th Amendment. This would probably be a great case to test it. Can federal government force private citizens (not the states) to DO something under penalty of law, esp. if a state enforces "non-acquiescence"? That is, says we refuse to submit to that law.

One can hardly argue with Pelosi's statement, just on the face of it it is so outrageous! When has anybody of consequence in US History said that Congress's power to regulate ANY part of our economy/society is essentially unlimited?? Who would have been so stupid or arrogant to think it, much less say it??

The Constitution...I remember the Constitution. Whatever happened to that thing? And that country where government was supposed to be of, for and by the people, I used to love that place. But its so much better now. Government knows what is best for business and health and religion and environment and you know, we don't even need to think any more, Government can do that for us too. Ooh, the President is coming on, all hail Obama.

Cake? Are you serious? We can't eat cake. It's unhealthy, and makes the cost of health care increase. It's tofu and celery sticks for you, mister.

In Ms. Nancy's mind, the power of the government to do ANYTHING is essentially unlimited, or should be. This crew wants to direct every aspect of our lives, cradle to grave. What to eat, believe, read and everything else. They are very dangerous!!!!

So because of DOMA, I'm force to buy a marriage cert., if I don't want to buy it, or under RILUPA, force me to worship some other religion not of my choosing. Nice try at the straw man lil ed, but forcing use peeons to purchase excessively expensive health coverage under penalty of fines or imprisonment (nice totalitarian move by the dems) doesn't seem to be in the Constitution anywhere, nor is telling use what docs we can see or procedures we can have. But, the Constitution is evil, right?

So you don't like her assessment of the Interstate Commerice Clause? Or just using it to deal with health care?If its the commerce clause then let's get rid of some other things like DOMA, RILUPA, federal drug regulation, federal road spending, etc. Or maybe it's jst a Pelosi ad homonynm.
