As a mother, I have seen 2 live ultrasounds and heard the heartbeat of my then-unborn kids. A friend is having a 4-D ultrasound soon. Cool. Advances in technology are busting the myth that fetuses are not human yet.

As a fiscal conservative, I must point out that abortion is far cheaper than welfare, medicare, and any other state aid. Without abortion, these children would have children of their own. Instead of 16 million children, what percentage would be in prison and/or having children they cannot support? Those who are not bright enough to have safe sex in this day and age are too stupid to be good parents. Society and the tax rate are better off without dumb people (of any race) reproducing.

But is the government's order that a woman carry to term a child that will be born with its brain exposed more (or less) offensive than the government hypothetical order that Sarah Palin have an abortion? It's not about the merits of either choice. It's about who chooses.
