You can't make this up. Well connected union thugs are upset than an Eagle Scout did a good deed..
In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.
Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city's largest municipal union.
Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.
"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council.
Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

We're not saying Boy Scouts should take the place of municipal employees - just that da Unions shouldn't be so paranoid about a Boy Scout volunteering for something that probably wasn't in the budget anyway. The big, tough Union thugs afraid of a Boy Scout - you have to love it!!

There a MANY companies that can provide the Same level of service Far cheaper than Public Employees, and that is the job of our elected officials, save rather than spend and not run an Employment Agency that is Way out of control.

Why don't all you neo-cons go out and do volunteer work like this and just eliminate municipal employees. Get up early before going to work and plow your block to eliminate snow removal equipment and drivers. Or clean the sewers in fromt of your house to get rid of that equipment and workers. Or cut and maintain city parks and lawns and get rid of those workers. Maybe its time all citizens do "volunteer" work and get rid of all workers, just provide labor and your own equipment.

That's right, Madoff was also a "Union Goon" wasn't he? Those damn unions--if they would just go away and allow unregulated capitalism to take its course, there would never be any problems. Unions created mortgage backed securities and credit swaps; union bosses are paid 535 times the worker on the floor, and unions asked for government bailouts-first from Bush and then from Obama. Got it, thanks for the union history lesson. And LJB, don't be so shallow and literal in your interpretation

No, unbeknownst to the union, Mercury certified a revote only after it had secured corporate welfare from the state and Fond du Lac county to stay there.

1. The union members in Fond du Lac re-voted themselves into a new contract. I don't give anyone who sinks a state into a $7B deficit credit for anything but fraud. 2. I believe government should stay out of private enterprise. The fact is, states compete for industry and Wisconsin, especially under Doyle, has done a better job killing industry. 3. Like Charlie's post points out, what would happen in SE Wisconsin if a company volunteered it's labor to do community service?

I'm sure Toyota did it purely out of love. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the 7th largest company in the world received nearly $250 million in corporate welfare from various Texas governments: state, county and local. I still haven't heard anyone on the right credit Doyle for saving Mercury in Fond du Lac despite his behind the scenes work to do so--but, you pro-corporate welfare hacks were certainly shredding his "absence" while Mercury held Fond du Lac hostage.

Use the growing conservative movement to unite against unions. Use the TEA parties or similar groups as a sort of anti-union group. Until now there hasn't been a conservative group to turn to against the liberal group that is the union. America is at a crossroads. I am glad I am on the side of conservatives. Join me and one another. We will rid America of big government where most of Europe has failed.

Toyota built a Truck plant near San Antonio, TX. Years in the making it started building Tundra pick-um-up's about one year before the crash of '08. Management decided that rather than lay-off hundreds of workers they would pay them to do community service for the city. The city graciously accepted the offer. What would happen in Milwaukee if Toyota made a similar offer in SE Wisconsin? Oh wait, isn't there a reason they spent millions on their plant in Texas?

I knew this banker who was non-union and asked for a government bailout. The non-union President (Bush) granted it. After nearly ruining the global economy, the banker gave himself a $60 million bonus in the form of stock options which conveniently allowed him to buy his (then) worthless stock for the price he drove his company down to with poor investments and performance. When the market rebounded, he sold it for the going rate and made more. Does this represent all non-union capitalists?

My dad had a good job, good pay until some new employees were hired who were determined to unionize the place. They succeeded, as did the annual strikes. When dad got fed up and began to cross the picket line, extreme security measures became the order of the day. Every morning the willing workers had to meet at a different spot to board the bus that brought them into the plant. Every day this trip enraged the picketers. One evening a bottle of dirty oil was thrown through our front window.
